Operational planning and bidding for district heating systems with uncertain renewable energy production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In countries with an extended use of district heating (DH), the integrated operation of DH and power systems can increase the flexibility of the power system achieving a higher integration of renewable energy sources (RES).

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Life Cycle Assessment of Municipal Waste Water Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Life Cycle Assessment was applied to municipal planning in a study of waste water systems in Bergsjön, a Göteborg suburb, and Hamburgsund, a coastal village. Existing waste water treatment consists of mechanical, biological and chemical treatment.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Planning for a sustainable city region? Regional district heating in Stockholm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Stockholm is by far the largest city in Sweden and it is also the only region with legislated regional planning. Since the region has the highest and most dense population, regional cooperation is important in many aspects, for example by finding ...

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Rakennuksen työaikainen lämmitys : Lämmitysjärjestelmän valinta [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Olin YIT:llä työnjohtoharjoittelussa Nummen palvelukeskuksen työmaalla Hämeenlinnassa ja kysyin mahdollisia opinnäytetyön aiheita. Minulle ehdotettiin, että aihe voisi liittyä rakennuksen työaikaiseen lämmitykseen.

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Possibilities of applying a low-temperature centralized heat supply network in a multi-apartment building district

open access: yesMokslas: Lietuvos Ateitis
Lithuania‘s district heating (DH) network tends to maintain high heat transfer temperatures, which limit the efficiency of the system. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of DH and reduced heat transfer temperature in the building on space ...
