Polish District Heating Systems—Development Perspectives [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Architecture, 2016
The most economical and rational means of heat supply for city inhabitants are district heating systems. Heat generated in power plants and large heat sources is cheaper than heat from individual sources. The reason for that is the amount of the generated heat and the used fuel (coal for most heat sources). District heating, a very important energy sub-

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Tribological Performance of 60NiTi Alloy Under Varying Contact Conditions and Elevated Temperatures in Linear Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the tribological response of 60NiTi alloy under dry, water‐lubricated and high‐temperature conditions. The alloy exhibits decreasing wear volume and friction with increasing temperature due to the formation of protective oxide layers. The work clarifies dominant wear mechanisms and demonstrates the suitability of 60NiTi for high‐

Cogeneration in district heating systems

open access: yes, 2004
The District Heating systems (DH) are distribution systems of thermal energy, normally in the way of hot water that is supplied to great areas of population, so the users of these systems use them in the heating of their buildings and in the preparation of the hot tap water that is consumed in the buildings.

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

A decision support system for fostering smart energy efficient districts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The role of ICT is becoming prominent in tackling some of the urban societal challenges such as energy wastage and increasing carbon emissions. In this context, the concept of DAREED aims to deliver an integrated decision support system (DSS) to drive ...

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...
