Developmental history and object relations in psychiatrically disturbed adolescent girls
American Journal of Psychiatry, 1990This study explored empirically the relationship between developmental history variables and several dimensions of object relations in a sample of 36 female adolescent inpatients. The results document the importance of preoedipal experience, the relationship with the mother, and continuity of attachments in shaping object relations.

Disturbance, coexistence, history, and competition for space
Theoretical Population Biology, 1980A simple model to elucidate the effect of disturbance on a large number of competitors that compete for space and exhibit a competitive hierarchy is developed. Conditions are derived that determine presence of species, and diversity is calculated as a function of percentage cover. The model is compared to data from coral reefs collected by J. W. Porter

Rainforest Composition and Histories of Human Disturbance in Solomon Islands
AMBIO: A Journal of the Human Environment, 2003On the basis of a Solomon Islands case study, we report that tropical rainforests hitherto perceived as untouched, pristine, virgin, etc., are actually sites of former settlement, extensive forest clearance, and irrigated/swidden agriculture. An unusually wide range of sources--rainforest ecology, forest classification and mapping, ethnobotany, land ...

Asthma, psychic disturbances and family history of atopic disorders
Journal of Psychosomatic Research, 1979Abstract One hundred asthmatic patients, divided into groups with/without a family history of atopic disorders ( n = 62 and 38 respectively), underwent a semi-structured psychiatric interview and questionnaire and psychological investigations (MMPI, Wartegg test, Self-image test, Beck Depression Inventory).

Contribution of PTSD/POW history to behavioral disturbances in dementia
International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, 2001AbstractAs many World War II and Korean Conflict veterans suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) grow older, increasing numbers will be diagnosed with dementia. We retrospectively analyzed patients with dementia, comparing the behavioral disturbances of those with PTSD to those without PTSD.

Disturbing History: resistance in early colonial Fiji
The Journal of Pacific History, 2013Nicole has set himself the task of rewriting Fijian history from below. In my view, he succeeds admirably.

The effect of disturbance history on the recovery of benthic invertebrate communities following disturbance was investigated in four streams in the Southern Alps of New Zealand. Two of the streams had a history of fluctuating discharge and temperature while the others did not. Recovery from disturbance was tested experimentally using baskets of cobbles,

DISTURBANCE HISTORY INFLUENCES REGENERATION OF NON-PIONEER UNDERSTORY TREES
Ecology, 2003Is regeneration of understory trees in closed-canopy forests following large-scale disturbances influenced by the recent history of small-scale disturbances? We examined recruitment (in-growth of advance recruits to 2-cm diameter at 1.5-m height at each biennial census), growth, and mortality of non-pioneer understory trees in local areas with ...

Environmental Disturbance and Life Histories: Principles and Examples
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1979While many environmental disturbances have no readily detectable effect on aquatic invertebrates in the short term, they may prevent normal reproduction and cause eventual local extinction of a species. Small temperature changes may interfere with diapause signals and prevent completion of the life cycle.

Local disturbance history affects patchiness of benthic river algae
Freshwater Biology, 2003Summary1. Recent research has shown that high‐flow events in streams leave a small‐scale mosaic of bed patches that have experienced scouring, sediment deposition (fill), or remained stable. Few studies have investigated if this ‘local disturbance history’ contributes to the patchy distribution of benthic organisms in streams and rivers.2.
