Shear‐Mode Direct Piezoelectric Response of Ferroelectric Nematic Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Periodic shear‐induced electric current measurements are reported on two archetypic ferroelectric nematic liquid crystal compounds. From the temperature, frequency and shear angle dependent results of the first and second harmonic current signals together with temperature and oscillatory rheology measurements, the effective piezoelectric coupling ...

Bio‐Inspired Gradient Heterogeneous Architectures for Ultrasensitive and Robust Strain Sensors via Programmable Crack Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the insect campaniform sensillum, a heterogeneous bilayer strain sensor is developed based on a unique impedance mismatch and three‐dimensional structural dynamic percolation strategy. The sensor enables real‐time multi‐joint teleoperation of three joints and the gripper using a six‐degree‐of‐freedom robotic‐arm platform.

Vine‐Inspired Soft Robotics: Materials, Actuations, and Emerging Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Vine‐inspired robots grow from the tip, enabling navigation through confined spaces with minimal disturbance. This Review summarizes material and actuation strategies for vine‐inspired growth, key functions including steering, retraction, attachment, branching, and variable stiffness, and emerging applications spanning medical intervention, confined ...

Field‐Driven Active Colloids as Distributed Micromachines: Bridging Physics, Control, and Function Across Length Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Field‐driven active colloids are framed as distributed micromachines in which externally supplied power, sensing, and control regulate task‐relevant states. By closing the loop between particle behavior, imaging, computation, and electric or magnetic actuation, these systems can progress from programmable motion toward adaptive functional outcomes ...

Stochastic‐MTJ Sampler Arrays for In‐Array Monte–Carlo Estimation

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
A low‐energy‐barrier magnetic tunnel junction array is operated as a probability‐domain sampler: each cell's random switching, programmed through a shared digital‐to‐analog converter, makes the per‐column multiply–accumulate an unbiased Monte–Carlo expectation estimator that returns both a mean and a calibrated uncertainty.
