Divergence, Big Time [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Economic Perspectives, 1997
Historical data are unnecessary to demonstrate that perhaps the basic fact of modern economic history is massive absolute divergence in per capita income across countries. A plausible lower bound on per capita income can be combined with estimates of its current level in the poorer countries to place an upper bound on long-run income growth.

Robust Subspace Tracking With Contamination Mitigation via α-Divergence

open access: yes, 2022
: We studied the problem of robust subspace tracking (RST) in contaminated environments. Leveraging the fast approximated power iteration and α-divergence, a novel robust algorithm called αFAPI was developed for tracking the underlying principal subspace

Cryptic Species Exist in Vietnamella sinensis Hsu, 1936 (Insecta: Ephemeroptera) from Studies of Complete Mitochondrial Genomes

open access: yesInsects, 2022
Ephemeroptera (Insecta: Pterygota) are widely distributed all over the world with more than 3500 species. During the last decade, the phylogenetic relationships within Ephemeroptera have been a hot topic of research, especially regarding the phylogenetic

TimeTree2: species divergence times on the iPhone [PDF]

open access: yesBioinformatics, 2011
AbstractSummary: Scientists, educators and the general public often need to know times of divergence between species. But they rarely can locate that information because it is buried in the scientific literature, usually in a format that is inaccessible to text search engines.

The early modern great divergence: wages, prices and economic development in Europe and Asia, 1500-1800 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Contrary to the claims of Pomeranz, Parthasarathi and other ‘world historians’, the prosperous parts of Asia between 1500 and 1800 look similar to the stagnating southern, central and eastern parts of Europe rather than the developing northwestern parts.

Genetic Evolution and Implications of the Mitochondrial Genomes of Two Newly Identified Taenia spp. in Rodents From Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
The larva of Taeniidae species can infect a wide range of mammals, causing major public health and food safety hazards worldwide. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP), a biodiversity hotspot, is home to many species of rodents, which act as the critical ...
