Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Love, Justice, and Divine Simplicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper raises an underappreciated paradox for classical theism. Love seems to be an inherently biased and partial relation. Justice seems to require the opposite, detached impartiality (think of the attributes of the just judge).

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

What Is a Divine Procession? Liturgy, Pure Perfection, and the Filioque and Essence–Energy Debates

open access: yesReligions
Many debates in Christian theology and philosophy, especially debates having to do with the Trinity (like the debate over the filioque) and with divine action (like the debate over whether there is a distinction between God’s essence and God’s energies),

Critique of the Argument of Divine Hiddenness based on Positive and Negative Rules of Existence in the Transcendental Wisdom of Sadra [PDF]

open access: yesحکمت صدرایی
In his divine hiddenness argument, John Schellenberg argues that God's Intentional negligence to provide convincing evidence has put some of his sincere seekers in a state of reasonable nonbelief.

Thomist Classical Theism: Divine Simplicity within Aquinas' Triplex Via Theology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Defenders and critics of divine simplicity rightly look to Thomas Aquinas’s important contributions to this pillar of classical theism (=CT). But few contemporary discussions notice the way Aquinas employs pseudo-Dionysius’s triplex via as a principled ...

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

The Mystery of Awe and Silence at the Level of the Uniqueness of Divine Essence: The Views of Avicenna, Mullā Ṣadrā, and ʿAllāma Ṭabāṭaāʾī [PDF]

open access: yesحکمت معاصر
In their theological works, Muslim philosophers tend to elaborate on the unity and other attributes of the Necessary Existent (wājib al-wujūd) after establishing its existence. In such discussions, they examine the essence (dhāt) alongside its attributes

ON GOD AND MANN: A VIEW OF DIVINE SIMPLICITY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
One of the most difficult and perplexing tenets of classical theism is the doctrine of divine simplicity. Broadly put, this is generally understood to be the thesis that God is altogether without any proper parts, composition, or metaphysical complexity ...
