Rare spontaneous monochorionic dizygotic twins: a case report and a systematic review

open access: yesBMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, 2022
Background Monochorionic dizygotic twins are a rare condition, mostly related to assisted reproductive technology. This type of twinning is burdened by the same risk of pregnancy complications found in monochorionic monozygotic pregnancies.

Indian twin registry: A gold mine for genetic studies

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2023
Twins are a source of curiosity, both for the family and the scientific community. Genetic similarities between twins have been the preferred choice to study the heritability of traits.

Does Sex Discordance on Antenatal Ultrasound Always Predict Dichorionicity?

open access: yesMaternal-Fetal Medicine, 2020
. Monochorionic dizygotic twin gestation is clinically very uncommon but poses significant antenatal and postnatal complications. Here we review the diagnosis, mechanism, perinatal management, and pregnant outcomes of monochroic dizygotic twin gestation.

Vertical Transmission and Discordance of Cytomegalovirus in Twin Pregnancies

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2021
ObjectiveThe objectives are to estimate the vertical transmission rate in twins relative to singleton pregnancies, to evaluate whether discordance within twin pairs is rare, and to characterize concordance within monozygotic and dizygotic twin pairs in ...

Risk of psychiatric disorders among the surviving twins after a co-twin loss

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Losing a co-twin by death is a severely stressful event yet with unknown impact on the surviving twin’s risk of psychiatric disorders. We identified all Swedish-born twins who lost a co-twin by death between 1973 and 2013 (n = 4,528), their 4939 non-twin

Handedness in twins: meta-analyses

open access: yesBMC Psychology, 2022
Background In the general population, 10.6% of people favor their left hand over the right for motor tasks. Previous research suggests higher prevalence of atypical (left-, mixed-, or non-right-) handedness in (i) twins compared to singletons, and in (ii)

Case Report: Identification of Germline Chimerism in Monochorionic Dizygotic Twins

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2021
Monochorionic twins are generally considered to be monozygotic, as monochorionic dizygotic (MCDZ) twins are extremely rare in natural pregnancies. Several studies have reported this rare occurrence, and most of these pregnancies have been conceived by ...

Multiple cardiac rhabdomyomas not associated with tuberous sclerosis in a dizygotic twins: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2021
Background Rhabdomyomas comprise the majority of cardiac tumors in fetuses and are found in association with tuberous sclerosis complex. More than 90% of fetuses and neonates with multiple cardiac rhabdomyomas have signs of tuberous sclerosis complex ...

Genetic modelling of dizygotic twinning in pedigrees of spontaneous dizygotic twins [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics, 1996
The inheritance of spontaneous dizygotic (DZ) twinning was investigated in 1,422 three-generation pedigrees ascertained through mothers of spontaneous DZ proband twins. DZ twinning was modelled as a trait expressed only in women. The penetrance was modelled first as a parity independent and secondly as parity dependent.
