Coarctation of the aorta in dizygotic twins
Cardiology in the Young, 2000AbstractThe incidence of congenital heart disease is higher in monozygotic than dizygotic twins, with a higher concordance rate. Although coarctation of the aorta has previously been reported in monozygotic twins, to the best of our knowledge it has not been described in dizygotic twins. We report here such a concurrence in dizygotic twins conceived by

The endocrinology of dizygotic twinning in the human
Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 1998Heredity, higher maternal age and increased parity are well defined conditions associated with dizygotic twinning. An endocrine model of excessive secretion of pituitary gonadotrophic hormones explains multiple ovulation as a result of multiple follicle growth.

Sirenomelia dipus in a dizygotic twin
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2002A rare case of sirenomelia in a LBW, IUGR & second of a dizygotic twin having multiple congenital anomalies is being reported. Apart from the features of sirenomelia, the newborn had a single umbilical artery, radial hypoplasia, total anorectal & urogenital agenesis and undetermined sex.

Coital rates and dizygotic twinning
Journal of Biosocial Science, 1972There is some evidence, mostly of an epidemiological nature, that coital rates may be positively associated with dizygotic twinning. It is suggested that this link is causal, in which case an explanation becomes available for some curious—and hitherto unexplained—features of dizygotic twinning rates by maternal age and legitimacy.

Congenital biliary dilatation in dizygotic twins
Pediatric Surgery International, 2004Congenital biliary dilatation (CBD) of different types was recently noted in dizygotic twins. Our cases suggest the possibility of hereditary involvement in CBD. On the other hand, CBD discordance in six sets of monozygotic twins has been reported, which would suggest that the occurrence of CBD is not compatible with single gene control, although ...

Sirenomelia and anencephaly in one of dizygotic twins
Teratology, 1986AbstractThe combination of sirenomelia and anencephaly was observed in a stillborn dizygotic twin. A review of the literature revealed no other patients reported to have both conditions. Various explanations concerning the genesis of sirenomelia, and also the combination with anencephaly, are discussed.

Neural-tube defect in dizygotic twins
Pediatric Surgery International, 2002Despite the strong association between twinning and neural-tube defects (NTD), concordance of twins with NTDs is very rare. A case of concordant NTDs in dizygotic twins is reported in view of its extreme rarity.

Life Expectancy of Monozygotic and Dizygotic Twins
Acta geneticae medicae et gemellologiae: twin research, 1993AbstractWhite male twins from the NAS-NRC twin sample, who were born in the U.S. between 1917 and 1927 and served in the military, are used to estimate variability in hazard functions for those twins who died during the period 1974-1990. Roughly the same number of MZ and DZ twins died during this period, but their death rates are similar.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in dizygotic twins
Neurology, 1977A pair of dizygotic twins developed typical amyotrophic lateral sclerosis during adulthood. The concordance for this disease in these two patients of nonconsanguineous parentage with no family history of the disorder suggests the possibility of sublethal intrauterine injury to anterior horn cells.
