The relationship between fluoride concentration in drinking water with dental caries and fluorosis in Vietnamese children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Obtained information on dental caries and fluorosis among a representative sample of Vietnamese children. Also collected information on factors likely to influence caries experience and dental fluorosis and undertook statistical analyses to examine the ...

FoxO3a as a positive prognostic marker and a therapeutic target in Tamoxifen-resistant breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Resistance to endocrine treatments is a major clinical challenge in the management of estrogen receptor positive breast cancers. Although multiple mechanisms leading to endocrine resistance have been proposed, the poor outcome of this ...

Halide‐Dependent Photoluminescence and Heavy‐Atom Effects in Low‐Melting Organic–Inorganic Manganese Halides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two pyridinium‐based ionic liquid templated hybrid manganese halides, (C4Py)2[MnCl4] and (C4Py)2[MnBr4], display similar bulk structures but show significantly different photoluminescence behaviors due to the bromine heavy‐atom effect. Their stable local Mn environments remain intact even in the molten state, allowing applications such as luminescence ...

Radiomics for Response and Outcome Assessment for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Routine follow-up visits and radiographic imaging are required for outcome evaluation and tumor recurrence monitoring. Yet more personalized surveillance is required in order to sufficiently address the nature of heterogeneity in nonsmall cell lung ...

Amyloidogenic Peptide Fragments Designed From Bacterial Collagen‐like Proteins Form Hydrogel

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study identified amyloidogenic sequence motifs in bacterial collagen‐like proteins and exploited these to design peptides that self‐assemble into β‐sheet fibers and form hydrogels. One hydrogel supported healthy fibroblast growth, showing promise for biocompatible materials. Our work demonstrates that bacterial sequences can be harnessed to create

In‐Situ Solution Complexation for n‐Type Surface‐Energetics Reconstruction in 2.0 eV Ultra‐Wide‐Bandgap Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A reactive in situ solution complexation strategy reconstructs the surface of 2.0 eV ultra‐wide‐bandgap perovskites via proton transfer. This chemical modulation eliminates metallic defects and induces a degenerate‐like n‐type surface, establishing an Ohmic tunneling contact.

The predictive value of LGR for distant metastasis-free survival in locally advanced rectal cancer patients

open access: yesHeliyon
Studies show that inflammation induced by cancer is a key factor in carcinogenesis. Here, we sought to assess the relationship between patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) and the lymphocyte to neutrophil granulocyte ratio (LGR) prior to ...

Geo-mapping of caries risk in children and adolescents - a novel approach for allocation of preventive care

open access: yesBMC Oral Health, 2011
Background Dental caries in children is unevenly distributed within populations with a higher burden in low socio-economy groups. Thus, tools are needed to allocate resources and establish evidence-based programs that meet the needs of those at risk. The
