Characterization of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) in Drosophila arizonae

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2000
Ribosomal DNA (rDNA) is a multigenic family composed of one or more clusters of repeating units (RU). Each unit consists of highly conserved sequences codifying 18S, 5.8S and 28S rRNA genes intercalated with poorly conserved regulatory sequences between ...

A single, multiplex PCR for differentiating all species of Trichinella

open access: yesParasite, 2001
The genus Trichinella is currently divided into seven species and at least three additional, unclassified genotypes, Trichinella T6, T8 and T9, where both T8 and T9 have been deemed very similar to T. britovi. Other than for the non-encapsulated species,

Molecular Evidence of Trichobilharzia Species (Digenea: Schistosomatidae) in the Snails of Lymnaea auricularia from Urmia Suburb, North West Iran

open access: yesIranian Journal of Parasitology, 2016
Background: The present study was carried out to detect the infection of larval stages of Trichobilharzia species in the snail Lymnaea auricularia in northwestern Iran based on DNA analysis. Methods: A total number of 320 snails of L.

The unusual Gasteromycetes Lycogalopsis solmsii belongs to the gomphoid-phalloid group

open access: yesActa Mycologica, 2013
The rare tropical Gasteromycetes Lycogalopsis solmsii has been found twice at thirty years interval in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. From the most recent find a culture could be isolated, which allowed DNA extraction and sequencing of about 2000 bp from

Regulation of ribosomal DNA transcription by insulin [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1998
The experiments reported here used 3T6-Swiss albino mouse fibroblasts and H4-II-E-C3 rat hepatoma cells as model systems to examine the mechanism(s) through which insulin regulates rDNA transcription. Serum starvation of 3T6 cells for 72 h resulted in a marked reduction in rDNA transcription.

Salt Effects on the Thermodynamics of a Frameshifting RNA Pseudoknot under Tension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Because of the potential link between -1 programmed ribosomal frameshifting and response of a pseudoknot (PK) RNA to force, a number of single molecule pulling experiments have been performed on PKs to decipher the mechanism of programmed ribosomal frameshifting.

NTRFINDER: A Software Tool to Find Nested Tandem Repeats [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We introduce the software tool NTRFinder to find the complex repetitive structure in DNA we call a nested tandem repeat (NTR). An NTR is a recurrence of two or more distinct tandem motifs interspersed with each other. We propose that nested tandem repeats can be used as phylogenetic and population markers.

3D DNA origami crystals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Engineering shape and interactions of nanoscopic building blocks allows for the assembly of rationally designed macroscopic three-dimensional (3D) materials with spatial accuracy inaccessible to top-down fabrication methods. Owing to its sequence-specific interaction, DNA is often used as selective binder to connect metallic nanoparticles into highly ...

The role of the DNA damage response in zebrafish and cellular models of Diamond Blackfan anemia

open access: yesDisease Models & Mechanisms, 2014
Ribosomal biogenesis involves the processing of pre-ribosomal RNA. A deficiency of some ribosomal proteins (RPs) impairs processing and causes Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA), which is associated with anemia, congenital malformations and cancer.

A resource dependent protein synthesis model for evaluating synthetic circuits [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Reliable in-silico design of synthetic gene networks necessitates novel approaches to model the process of protein synthesis under the influence of limited resources. We present such a novel protein synthesis model which originates from the Ribosome Flow Model and among other things describes the movement of RNA-polymerase and Ribosomes on mRNA and DNA
