Targeting PRMTs Creates Vulnerability of DNA Double‐Stand Break Repair Pathways, and Potentiates Chemotherapy Efficacy in TNBC

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Our work makes the proof of concept that there is a clinical benefit to target both PRMT1 and PRMT5 to maximize the anti‐tumoral effect of chemotherapy in triple negative breast cancer. ABSTRACT Patients with triple‐negative breast cancer (ER−, PR−, and HER2−) are routinely treated with chemotherapies that induce DNA damage.

Plant‐produced encapsulin displays non‐typhoidal Salmonella enterica antigens and assembles into mosaic nanoparticles

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
This study investigates the potential of encapsulin as an antigen display platform for the development of a candidate Salmonella vaccine for poultry. Encapsulin constructs were transiently expressed in Nicotiana benthamiana where they accumulated to high levels.

Deciphering the properties and reaction mechanism of anhydromevalonate phosphate decarboxylase, a prenylated flavin mononucleotide‐dependent enzyme in the archaeal mevalonate pathway

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Characterization of anhydromevalonate phosphate decarboxylase, the UbiD‐family decarboxylase involved in the archaeal mevalonate pathway, was conducted. The enzyme is responsible for the biosynthesis of isoprenoids, such as archaeal membrane lipids, respiratory quinones, and dolichols.

The competitive interplay of 12‐oxophytodienoic acid (OPDA), protein thiols, and glutathione

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
12‐Oxophytodienoic acid (OPDA) is a phytohormone involved in plant growth and stress defense. Due to its cyclopentenone moiety, OPDA can form Michael adducts with thiol‐containing compounds such as glutathione and cysteine residues of proteins, resulting in alterations of the cellular redox regulatory network.

Understanding how enzymes work: the journey to ensemble–function studies

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
For decades, structure–function has dominated biochemistry. Structures are highly valuable, yet more is needed to achieve a quantitative understanding of biomolecular function, because function emerges from an ensemble of states, rather than a static structure. We describe an ensemble–function framework applied to quantitatively dissect serine protease

Characterisation of Sex Pheromone and Genetic Strain in Rachiplusia nu (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Populations Across Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rachiplusia nu, known as the sunflower looper (SFL) and belonging to the Plusiinae subfamily, is a major defoliator of soybeans, sunflowers and other horticultural crops across southern South America. This species has recently expanded to central and northern regions of Brazil, becoming a key soybean pest.
