Human iPSC‐Derived Mononuclear Phagocytes Improve Cognition and Neural Health across Multiple Mouse Models of Aging and Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Short‐term intravenous treatments with iPSC‐derived mononuclear phagocytes (iMPs) improve cognitive decline and neural health in two mouse models of aging and in the 5xFAD mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. iMPs reduce levels of serum amyloid proteins that increase in aging and improve the health of hippocampal microglia and mossy cells.

Integrated taxonomy: traditional approach and DNA barcoding for the identification of filarioid worms and related parasites (Nematoda)

open access: yesFrontiers in Zoology, 2009
Background We compared here the suitability and efficacy of traditional morphological approach and DNA barcoding to distinguish filarioid nematodes species (Nematoda, Spirurida).

PRDM16 Reduces Cellular Senescence by Upregulating GSTM1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cellular senescence drives aging and aging‐related organ disorders, yet PRDM16's role remains unexplored. This work uncovers that PRDM16 decreases significantly in aged organs, while its loss accelerates cellular senescence and aging‐related organ injury.

DNA barcoding for identification of fish species in the Taiwan Strait

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
DNA barcoding based on a fragment of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene in the mitochondrial genome is widely applied in species identification and biodiversity studies.

A Prion‐Like Domain in EBV EBNA1 Promotes Phase Separation and Enables SRRM1 Splicing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study discoveries that EBV EBNA1 behaves as a prion‐like protein, verified using cell‐based assays and the Saccharomyces cerevisiae Sup35p prion identification system. The prion‐like domain of EBNA1 drives liquid–liquid phase separation. EBNA1 interacts with the splicing factor SRSF1 to regulate the expression of the SRRM1 splicing isoforms ...

Using DNA barcoding to improve invasive pest identification at U.S. ports-of-entry

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Interception of potential invasive species at ports-of-entry is essential for effective biosecurity and biosurveillance programs. However, taxonomic assessment of the immature stages of most arthropods is challenging; characters for identification are ...

Single‐Cell Transcriptome Analysis Reveals That Hmga2 Regulates Neuroinflammation and Retinal Function by Modulating Müller Cell Autophagy Through PI3K/AKT Signaling Following MCAO‐Induced Retinal Ischemia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Employing snRNA‐seq post‐MCAO‐induced retinal ischemia (RI), this study revealed a novel Hmga2‐high Müller cell subpopulation. Hmga2 knockout alleviated neuroinflammation and RI symptoms, potentially by binding PI3K and regulating Müller cell autophagy.

A comparative assessment of 16S ribosomal RNA and Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit I (COI) Primers for Amphibian DNA Barcoding [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Amphibians, a diverse and ecologically important group, are facing global declines due to various factors, including habitat loss and climate change. Accurate species identification is crucial for effective conservation efforts, and DNA barcoding has ...

DNA barcoding of British mosquitoes (Diptera, Culicidae) to support species identification, discovery of cryptic genetic diversity and monitoring invasive species

open access: yesZooKeys, 2019
Correct mosquito species identification is essential for mosquito and disease control programs. However, this is complicated by the difficulties in morphologically identifying some mosquito species.

Endothelial BMP6 Drives Hemodynamic‐Dependent VSMCs Calcification in Carotid Atherosclerosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study demonstrates that endothelial cell (EC)‐derived BMP6 promotes the osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) through cell‐cell interactions. Additionally, the researchers preliminarily explore the driving effect of hemodynamic factors on BMP6‐induced calcification and reveal the regulatory role of KLF4 on BMP6.
