Chromosome Mapping with DNA Markers

Scientific American, 1988
New markers called RFLP's (for restriction-fragment length polymorphisms) can indicate the location on a chromosome of a disease-causing gene and serve to identify carriers. With enough markers one can map the human chromosomes--the first step toward an ambitious goal of molecular biology: sequencing the entire human genome.

Recent progresses in DNA nanostructure-based biosensors for detection of tumor markers.

Biosensors & bioelectronics, 2018
DNA has emerged as a promising biomaterial for assembling a variety of nanostructures based on its programmable base pairing. It also has other remarkable properties including stability, prominent biocompatibility, and can easily be modified with ...

Three DNA markers for hypophosphataemic rickets

Human Genetics, 1992
This paper presents three markers, 16D/E, pHMAI (DXS208), and CRI-L1391 (DXS274), that show close linkage for X-linked hypophosphataemic rickets (HYP). DXS274 is closely linked to HYP (theta max = 0.00, Zmax = 4.20), and DXS41 (99.6), (theta max = 0.00, Zmax = 5.20). Marker 16D/E maps distal to the disease locus (theta max = 0.05, Zmax = 3.11).

DNA markers in forensic medicine

Transfusion Clinique et Biologique, 1995
After a description of the various DNA polymorphisms which can be used in forensic medicine, the use of these markers for solving cases of disputed paternity is discussed in detail. VNTR polymorphisms detectable after amplification of the relevant loci by the PCR seem to be the best tools for paternity testing.

DNA methylation markers in colorectal cancer

Cancer and Metastasis Reviews, 2010
Colorectal cancer (CRC) arises as a consequence of the accumulation of genetic and epigenetic alterations in colonic epithelial cells during neoplastic transformation. Epigenetic modifications, particularly DNA methylation in selected gene promoters, are recognized as common molecular alterations in human tumors.

DNA Markers and Heterosis

2002
The growth in human population every year all over the world has resulted in an increased demand for food crops. With decreasing resources such as arable land and water, the only suitable alternative is to increase the yield of crop plants. Biotechnology is looked as a potential tool to significantly strengthen and complement the current crop breeding ...

GENETIC MAPPING OF DNA MARKERS IN PINEAPPLE

Acta Horticulturae, 2006
Two genetic maps of DNA-markers (RAPD, AFLP and ISSR) of Ananas comosus var. bracteatus and A. comosus var. comosus have been previously published by our team. These maps were constructed at the Laboratory of Genetics and Plant Breeding of FERN, University of Algarve, using an F1 mapping population derived from a cross performed in Martinique between ...

DNA Marker Analysis

2017
Genetic markers are polymorphic genetic sequences, like RFLPs or microsatellites, that differ within chromosomal alleles. Rather than analysing the sequence directly, this gene is inferred through analysis of a genetic marker. Marker analysis approach is quite helpful in population biology and ecology studies that can be trace patterns in populations ...

Microsatellites as DNA markers in Sitka spruce

TAG Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1996
Nine microsatellite loci were found by screening a genomic DNA library of Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) with the four oligonucleotide probes (TG), (CAC), (GATA) and (AT). Pairs of flanking primers were generated for seven microsatellites. Five primer pairs were used to screen up to 58 Sitka spruce clones.
