The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Affinity Purification of RNA: Sequence-Specific Capture by Nonionic Morpholino Probes
Nucleic acid isolation for amplification-based diagnostics requires techniques that do not co-purify inhibitors of DNA polymerases. Also, other requirements for an ideal sample preparation technology include ease of use, capability for automation, high ...

CIN2+ detection of the HPV DNA Array genotyping assay in comparison with the Cobas 4800 HPV test and cytology [PDF]
BACKGROUND: HPV DNA Array is an E1-targeting PCR genotyping test, with capability of distinguishing 18 high-risk (16, 18, 26, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 73, 82) and 11 low-risk HPV types (6, 11, 40, 42, 44, 54, 67, 69, 70, 85 ...

3'-minor groove binder-DNA probes increase sequence specificity at PCR extension temperatures.
DNA probes with conjugated minor groove binder (MGB) groups form extremely stable duplexes with single-stranded DNA targets, allowing shorter probes to be used for hybridization based assays.

Brucella NyxA and NyxB dimerization enhances effector function during infection
Brucella abortus thrives inside cells thanks to the translocation of effector proteins that fine‐tune cellular functions. NyxA and NyxB are two effectors that destabilize the nucleolar localization of their host target, SENP3. We show that the Nyx proteins directly interact with each other and that their dimerization is essential for their function ...

Generation of digoxigenin-incorporated probes to enhance DNA detection sensitivity
Telomere length in humans has been correlated with cancer and age-related diseases. The standard method to measure telomere length relies on Southern blot analysis with radioactively or non-radioactively labeled probes containing several telomeric DNA ...

Experimental and theoretical studies of sequence effects on the fluctuation and melting of short DNA molecules [PDF]
Understanding the melting of short DNA sequences probes DNA at the scale of the genetic code and raises questions which are very different from those posed by very long sequences, which have been extensively studied.

UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Charge transport in l-DNA probed by conducting-AFM, and relationship with its structure [PDF]
We studied the electrical conductivity of DNA samples as function of the number of DNA molecules. We showed that the insulating gap (no current at low voltage) increases from ~1-2 V for bundles and large ropes to ~4-7 V for few DNA molecules. From the distance dependent variation of the current, a unique hopping distance of ~3 nm is calculated (polaron-
