Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

Human Smc5/6 recognises transcription-generated positive DNA supercoils

open access: yesNature Communications
Beyond its essential roles in ensuring faithful chromosome segregation and genomic stability, the human Smc5/6 complex acts as an antiviral factor. It binds to and impedes the transcription of extrachromosomal DNA templates; an ability which is lost upon

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

Application of Algebraic Topology to Homologous Recombination of DNA

open access: yesiScience, 2018
Summary: Brouwer's fixed point theorem, a fundamental theorem in algebraic topology proved more than a hundred years ago, states that given any continuous map from a closed, simply connected set into itself, there is a point that is mapped unto itself ...

A two-phase approach for detecting recombination in nucleotide sequences

open access: yes, 2007
Genetic recombination can produce heterogeneous phylogenetic histories within a set of homologous genes. Delineating recombination events is important in the study of molecular evolution, as inference of such events provides a clearer picture of the ...

\u3cem\u3ePlasmodium falciparum\u3c/em\u3e SSB Tetramer Wraps Single-Stranded DNA with Similar Topology but Opposite Polarity to \u3cem\u3eE. coli\u3c/em\u3e SSB [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Single-stranded DNA binding (SSB) proteins play central roles in genome maintenance in all organisms. Plasmodium falciparum, the causative agent of malaria, encodes an SSB protein that localizes to the apicoplast and likely functions in the replication ...

Linking topology of large DNA molecules [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2010
Double helix DNA molecules, the carriers of genetic instructions in cells, are strongly affected by their topological properties. Two distinct and biologically important types of linking are associated with double helix DNAs: 'internal' linking of the two strands of individual double helices, and 'external' linking of separate double helix DNAs ...

Decoupling Dynamics and Crosslink Stability in Supramolecular Hydrogels Using Associative Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
How does reorganization impact the stability of supramolecular hydrogels? In contrast to dissociative crosslink exchange, implementing associative exchange in macroscale DNA hydrogels enables decoupling of reorganization dynamics from thermal and mechanical stability.

Multimodal Actuation and Environment Adaptive Strategies of Bio‐Inspired Micro/Nanorobots in Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
An introduction for multidrive and environment‐adaptive micro/nanorobotics: design and fabrication strategies, intelligent actuation, and their applications. Various intelligent actuation approaches—magnetic, acoustic, optical, chemical, and biological—can be synergistically designed to enhance flexibility and adaptive behavior for precision medicine ...
