Stapled side‐to‐side anastomosis to treat a pelvic flexure stricture in a miniature horse

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Fecaliths are a recognised cause of non‐strangulating colon obstruction in horses. Although they more commonly obstruct the small colon, they can also lodge in the pelvic flexure, requiring enterotomy for removal. Stricture at the enterotomy site is an uncommon but surgically significant complication.

Flow‐controlled expiration improves gas exchange in anaesthetised horses undergoing orthopaedic surgery

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Flow‐controlled expiration (FLEX) has been shown to significantly enhance oxygenation in horses under laboratory conditions. Objective This study aims to corroborate these findings by evaluating the effects of FLEX on gas exchange in a randomised clinical trial involving a large population of clinical horses undergoing orthopaedic ...

Cone beam computed tomographic myelography in horses with cervical vertebral compressive myelopathy

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background While computed tomographic (CT) myelography is increasingly available and has been evaluated in alive horses, objective criteria for diagnosing cervical vertebral compressive myelopathy (CVCM) are lacking. Objectives To establish morphometric dimensions of the cervical vertebral canal and spinal cords from horses with CVCM and ...

Association between aortic stenosis severity and contractile reserve measured by two-dimensional strain under low-dose dobutamine testing [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2013
Background/Aim. Early detection of left ventricle (LV) systolic dysfunction could be a clue for surgical treatment in patients with significant aortic stenosis (AS).

Pre‐anaesthetic risk assessment and management of dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease: a spectrum of care narrative review

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Myxomatous mitral valve disease, an acquired valvular degeneration, is the most common cardiac disorder in dogs, affecting approximately 10% of dogs in primary care veterinary practice. Dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease frequently require anaesthesia for routine procedures.

Intravenous administration of bone marrow-derived multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells has a neutral effect on obesity-induced diabetic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesBiological Research, 2013

Prognostic significance of sinus deceleration during dobutamine stress echocardiography test following acute myocardial infarction [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2006
Background/Aim. Chronotropic incompetence during exercise stress testing after acute myocardial infarction is an indicator of ischemia or impaired left ventricular function.

Identification of the individual cardiac contraction threshold during high‐frame‐rate stress echocardiography

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The clinical assessment of cardiovascular function during exercise using stress echocardiography is essential for accurate cardiac diagnosis. However, normal limitations of cardiac deformation responses to increasing physical exertion remain poorly understood.

Comparison of Levosimendan versus Dobutamine in Patients with Moderate to Severe Left Ventricular Dysfunction Undergoing Off-pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Randomized Prospective Study

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, 2017
Context: Recent upsurge in referral of patients with compromised left ventricular (LV) function for cardiac surgery has led to an increasing use inotropes to achieve improvement of tissue perfusion in the perioperative period.
