Using Paper Texture for Choosing a Suitable Algorithm for Scanned Document Image Binarization
The intrinsic features of documents, such as paper color, texture, aging, translucency, the kind of printing, typing or handwriting, etc., are important with regard to how to process and enhance their image. Image binarization is the process of producing

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

"Quality" vs. "Readability" in Document Images: Statistical Analysis of Human Perception
International audienceBased on the hypothesis that a good / poor quality document image is most probably a readable / unreadable document, document image quality and readability have interchangeably been used in the literature.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Document image analysis: What is missing? [PDF]
The conversion of documents into electronic form has proved more difficult than anticipated. Document image analysis still accounts for only a small fraction of the rapidly-expanding document imaging market. Nevertheless, the optimism manifested over the last thirty years has not dissipated.
