Restoring camera-captured distorted document images
International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition (IJDAR), 2014This article discusses restoration of camera-captured distorted document images. Without the assistance of 3D data or model, our algorithm estimates and rectifies document warping just from 2D image based on line segmentation. Warping shape of each text line is acquired by estimating baselines' shape and characters' slant angles after line segmentation.

Independent component analysis for document restoration
Document Analysis and Recognition, 2004We propose a novel approach to restoring digital document images, with the aim of improving text legibility and OCR performance. These are often compromised by the presence of artifacts in the background, derived from many kinds of degradations, such as spots, underwritings, and show-through or bleed-through effects.

Nonlinear shape restoration for document images

Towards Restoring Historic Documents Degraded Over Time
Second International Conference on Document Image Analysis for Libraries (DIAL'06), 2006Resorting to restoration techniques for heritage documents becomes an increasingly urgent need. In fact, these valuable resources for human being are subject to several types of degradations limiting their use. A proposed solution to this problem is the application of restoration techniques on the digital copy of the originally degraded document.

Document Decipherment-restoration: Strip-shredded Document Reconstruction based on Color
IEEE Latin America Transactions, 2013The strip-shredded document reconstruction is an often problem in questioned document examination. The proposed method uses the color as feature matching and then computes the Nearest-Neighbor algorithm using a distance matrix to carry out the reconstruction. The results reported in this paper achieved 97.68% - RGB and 98.53% - HSV models.

Geometric and photometric restoration of distorted documents
Tenth IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV'05) Volume 1, 2005We present a system to restore the 2D content printed on distorted documents. Our system works by acquiring a 3D scan of the document's surface together with a high-resolution image. Using the 3D surface information and the 2D image, we can ameliorate unwanted surface distortion and effects from non-uniform illumination.
