The Impact of Diagenesis and Dolomitization on the Reservoir Potential of Middle Jurassic Samana Suk Formation from Khanpur Dam Section Hazara Basin, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Economic and Environment Geology, 2017
Detailed study of the Samana Suk Formation has been carried out from the Khanpur Dam Section. Two lithological units have been identified in the studied section, limestone and dolomite (60% and 40% respectively).

Carbonate sedimentology: An evolved discipline

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Although admired and examined since antiquity, carbonate sediment and rock research really began with Charles Darwin who, during a discovery phase, studied, documented and interpreted their nature in the mid‐19th century. The modern discipline, however, really began after World War II and evolved in two distinct phases.

Oriented calcite concretions in Upper Miocene carbonate rocks of Menorca, Spain : evidence for fluid flow through a heterogeneous porous system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Elongate calcite concretions in Upper Miocene dolomitic, shallow-marine grainstones and packstones of Menorca document fluid flow through heterogeneous systems. These post-dolomitization concretions are thought to have grown with elongation axes parallel

Hydrothermal dolomitisation of a deep‐water bioherm isolated in a non‐dolomitised intraplatform basin within the Norian Dolomia Principale (Southern Alps, northern Italy)

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
We propose that one of the largest known bioconstructions (the Monte Zenone bioherm) in the Southern Alps, northern Italy, and its growth on a tilted and drowned platform block of the Norian Dolomia Principale was controlled by hydrothermal dolomitisation from fault‐controlled fluids during the Late Triassic–Early Jurassic rifting phase. Dolomitisation

Domed‐rim microbial polygons and their preservation potential

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
Microbially induced sedimentary structures (MISS) derive through interactions between minerals and microorganisms. We define a domed‐rim MISS, morphologically distinct from abiotic mud cracks and demonstrate its potential for long‐term preservation. These structures represent promising biosignatures in ancient environments on Earth and potentially Mars.

Dolomitization and Hypogenic Dissolution of the Eocene Avanah Formation, Iraqi Kurdistan

open access: yesARO-The Scientific Journal of Koya University
This study constrains the mechanism of extensive dolomitization and its impact on reservoir quality of the shallowwater marine ramp carbonates of the Avanah Formation (Eocene), Iraqi Kurdistan.

Mid‐Proterozoic Transient Oxygenation Events Linked to Enhanced Continental Chemical Weathering: Evidence From Carbonate Lithium Isotopes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 2, 28 January 2026.
Abstract Potential drivers disrupting mid‐Proterozoic (∼1.8–0.8 Ga) environmental stasis remain poorly constrained. Here we examined carbonate Li isotopes from the ∼1.44 Ga Tieling Formation, North China, to evaluate the effects of continental chemical weathering on coeval oxygenation.

Formation mechanisms and development models of dolomite reservoirs in Ordovician Yingshan Formation in Shunnan area, Tarim Basin

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi, 2020
The dolomite reservoirs of the Ordovician Yingshan Formation in Shunnan area of the Tarim Basin have a great oil and gas potential. However, the genesis of different types of dolomite reservoirs is still subject to debate.
