Rupture Cascade Initiated by Wastewater Disposal: Nucleation and Domino Effect of Canada's Largest Induced Earthquake

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 1, 16 January 2026.
Abstract In 2022–2023, three local‐magnitude (ML) 4.8–5.6 earthquakes shook the Peace River oilsands area of Alberta, Canada. Previous studies statistically linked the seismicity to nearby disposal activities but lacked in‐depth investigation into triggering mechanisms, including subsurface fluid migration and earthquake interaction.

Structure and sedimentation environment of the Silurian and Devonian boundary deposits in the west of Zeravshan-Gissar mountain region (Obi-Safit section, Kitab State Geological Reserve, Uzbekistan)

open access: yesЛитосфера, 2017
Continuous sequence of the boundary carbonate sediments of the Silurian and Devonian in the Ludford - Lochkov interval (Kupruk and lower part of Madmon Formation) have been studied in the Zeravshan-Gissars mountainous region of southern Tian-Shan, Kitab ...

Sedimentary Iron Cycling and the Origin and Preservation of Magnetization in Platform Carbonate Muds, Andros Island, Bahamas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Carbonate muds deposited on continental shelves are abundant and well-preserved throughout the geologic record because shelf strata are difficult to subduct and peritidal carbonate units often form thick, rheologically strong units that resist ...

From Quarries to Urban Construction Sites: Middle‐Late Mesozoic Limestones in the Public Architecture of Roman Verona, Italy

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 41, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT Numerous buildings, monuments, and infrastructural works in Verona were constructed during the Roman period using stone, a material abundantly available from quarrying areas located relatively close to the city. Petrographic investigations conducted by Transmitted Polarized Light Optical Microscopy (TPL‐OM) and complemented by colorimetric ...

Dolomites in a carbonate-evaporite system: the fifth member of the Middle Ordovician Majiagou Formation, Eastern Ordos Basin, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
IntroductionThe carbonate-evaporite system contains substantial hydrocarbon resources and serves as an excellent subject for studying dolomitization problem.

Generation of isotopically and compositionally distinct water during thermochemical sulfate reduction (TSR) in carbonate reservoirs: Triassic Feixianguan Formation, Sichuan Basin, China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Thermochemical sulfate reduction (TSR), the reaction of petroleum with anhydrite in reservoirs resulting in the growth of calcite and the accumulation of H2S, has been documented in the Feixianguan Formation dolomite reservoir in the Sichuan Basin, China.

Characteristics and the formation mechanism of the dolomite reservoirs for Lower Ordovician Majiagou Formation, central Ordos Basin, China

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
The distribution of anhydrite contributes to the formation of high-quality dolomite reservoirs. However, the lower part of the Lower Ordovician Majiagou Formation in the central Ordos Basin shows significant natural gas potential despite in anhydrite ...

Dolomite caves within the Seroe Domi Formation on Curacao, Netherland Antilles

open access: yesActa Carsologica, 2016
Remnant caves formed within the dolomitized Seroe Domi Formation on Curaçao were documented in order to determine their origin. Petrographic thin sections and geochemical analyses of samples from outcrops and cave wall rock agree with previous ...

Comparison of the Late Triassic carbonate platform evolution and Lofer cyclicity in the Transdanubian Range, Hungary and Pelagonian Zone, Greece [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
For comparative studies of Upper Triassic cyclic platform carbonates, the Transdanubian Range (Hungary) and the Pelagonian Zone (Greece) were chosen. Paleogeographically they represent two distant segments of the passive margin of the Neotethys Ocean ...
