A Domain-Independent Method for Risk Reduction Based on Reverse Engineering of Sub-Additive Algebraic Inequalities

open access: yesMathematics
This paper introduces a novel, domain-independent methodology for risk reduction based on the reverse engineering of sub-additive inequalities. The proposed approach establishes a robust and unifying theoretical framework for risk reduction that is ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Inter-turn short-circuit diagnosis of wound-field doubly salient machine using multi-signal fusion and GA-XGBoost

open access: yesFrontiers in Signal Processing
The wound-field doubly salient machine (WFDSM) is a generating system core assembly. Its condition monitoring and early fault diagnosis are key to improving system reliability.

Motor Fault Detection and Feature Extraction Using RNN-Based Variational Autoencoder

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In most of the fault detection methods, the time domain signals collected from the mechanical equipment usually need to be transformed into frequency domain or other high-level data, highly relying on professional knowledge such as signal processing and ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Design oriented simulation of contact-friction instabilities in application to realistic brake assemblies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents advances in non-linear simulations for systems with contact-friction, with an application to brake squeal. A method is proposed to orient component structural modifications from brake assembly simulations in the frequency and time ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
