Production of Transgenic Cloned Miniature Pigs with Membrane-bound Human Fas Ligand (FasL) by Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer

open access: yes, 2010
Cell-mediated xenograft rejection, including NK cells and CD8+ CTL, is a major obstacle in successful pig-to-human xenotransplantation. Human CD8+ CTL and NK cells display high cytotoxicity for pig cells, mediated at least in part by the Fas/FasL pathway.

Preclinical Efficacy and Safety Evaluation of a Novel Controlled‐Expansion ePTFE‐Covered TIPS Stent in a Swine Model

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This preclinical study evaluated a novel controlled‐expansion expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)‐covered transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) stent in 11 swine, demonstrating 100% technical success, excellent deployability, and durable 6‐month angiographic patency without thrombosis, migration, fracture, or device‐related toxicity.

Evolution under intensive industrial breeding: skull size and shape comparison between historic and modern pig lineages

open access: yes
Domestication and subsequent human-induced selection has enhanced profound changes in animal morphology. On modern domestic pigs, those transformations encompass not only overall increases in body size but also modifications in skull morphology.

Association between domestic pig farm's characteristics in relation to the African swine fever occurrence in Peninsular Malaysia

open access: yes, 2023
As ASF outbreaks among domestic pig farms in Peninsular Malaysia involve farms of various scale with different numbers of pig populations, determination of the risk factors related to farm characteristics would be useful to develop and strategise risk ...

Monitoring feral pigs (Sus scrofa): Complementarity between autonomous sensing methods increases detection probability

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Invasive alien species are a major threat for biodiversity worldwide and effective monitoring is paramount to inform management. In this study we used a multi‐season occupancy model to assess probability of detection between camera traps and passive acoustic recorders for feral pigs (Sus scrofa) during 1 year of data collection.

Business Model and Sustainable Development Goals for an Innovative Agricultural Waste Management: Distributed Biogas Production

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Technological progress and population growth have increased global pork demand; leading to a rise of methane emission from pig farming, a key contributor to climate change. Anaerobic digestion offers a sustainable solution by converting manure into biogas.

Barriers to Steel Decarbonization

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Main identified barriers to steel decarbonization Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are a leading contributor to global climate change, necessitating urgent mitigation strategies. While various metrics—such as total national emissions, per‐capita output, and historical contributions—define responsibility, determining accountability remains complex ...
