Death caused by a domestic pig attack

Forensic Science, Medicine and Pathology, 2021
The primary medico-legal investigation goal in deaths due to animal attacks is distinguishing between animal-related injuries and potential homicidal wounds. We report the case of a 49-year-old male found dead in his farm's pigsty, where a sow and her piglets were present.

Extraction and Dissection of the Domesticated Pig Brain

Journal of Visualized Experiments, 2021
Use of the pig as a preclinical and translatable animal model has been well-documented and accepted by research fields investigating cardiovascular systems, gastrointestinal systems, and nutrition, and the pig is increasingly being used as a large animal model in neuroscience.

SKIN TENSION LINES IN THE DOMESTIC PIG

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1976
The skin tension lines of the domestic pig have been mapped. With a 6mm punch biopsy, local relative skin forces can be determined. The influence of various factors (such as age, fat deposition, gascial attachments, and previous scarring) on the direction of the skin tension lines is discussed.

Photoreceptor density of the domestic pig retina

Veterinary Ophthalmology, 1999
The spatial distribution and densities of photoreceptors in seven whole‐mounted porcine retinas were studied and maps illustrating photoreceptor topography were constructed. Total photoreceptor densities ranged from to 83 000 to 200 000 cells/mm2, with a mean of 138 500 cells/mm2.

Domestic pigs in the study of myocardial ischemia

European Heart Journal, 1983
During the last 10 years there has been a growing interest in the use of domestic pigs in the study of various aspects of myocardial ischemia. While most studies are still performed on dogs, a number of scientific and non-scientific (emotional) reasons have led to a shift from the use of the former to that of domestic pigs.

Distribution of myocardial bridges in domestic pig

Polish Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2010
Localisation and morphology of myocardial bridges in the heart of domestic pig remain an open issue. Since these structures significantly influence haemodynamics in the coronary arteries, their occurance may lead to numerous pathologies. In the examined group of 150 domestic pig's hearts, myocardial bridges were diagnosed in 47.3% of the material ...

Reston virus in domestic pigs in China

Archives of Virology, 2012
Historically, Reston virus (RESTV) has been found to be associated with outbreaks of disease only in nonhuman primates. Its spread to domestic pigs was reported for the first time in 2008. In this study, we report the discovery, molecular detection, and phylogenetic analysis of Reston virus (RESTV) in domestic pigs in China.

Prevalence of Sarcocystis in domestic pigs in India

Veterinary Parasitology, 1991
Muscle samples from 890 slaughtered pigs were examined for the presence of sarcocysts. A high prevalence rate of 67.98% was observed. Two types of microsarcocysts were recorded. The sarcocyst wall of one type had redial striations and the other possessed hair-like villar protrusions.

Predation by a Herd of Domestic Pigs

American Journal of Forensic Medicine & Pathology
Predation by domestic pigs is unusual but not unheard of. However, predation by a herd of pigs is rare and has not been previously reported in the literature. We present a case report of an individual with predation by a herd of domestic pigs. The case involved a woman who had collapsed from a ruptured saccular aneurysm on her farm. A herd of farm pigs
