A Matrilineal Study on the Origin and Genetic Relations of the Ecuadorian Pillareño Creole Pig Population through D-Loop Mitochondrial DNA Analysis

open access: yesAnimals, 2021
Domestic pig breeds reached America on the second Columbus trip; from this date, Iberian pig genetic resources were disseminated throughout the continent, forming diverse creole breeds.

Genome-wide analysis of structural variants reveals genetic differences in Chinese pigs.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Pigs have experienced long-term selections, resulting in dramatic phenotypic changes. Structural variants (SVs) are reported to exert extensive impacts on phenotypic changes.

Aujeszky’s Disease and Hepatitis E Viruses Transmission between Domestic Pigs and Wild Boars in Corsica: Evaluating the Importance of Wild/Domestic Interactions and the Efficacy of Management Measures

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2018
Wildlife species as reservoirs of infectious pathogens represent a serious constraint in the implementation of disease management strategies. In the Mediterranean island of Corsica, the dynamics of hepatitis E virus (HEV) and Aujeszky’s disease virus ...

A longitudinal study of the effects of providing straw at different stages of life on tail-biting and other behaviour in commercially housed pigs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Tail-biting (TB) is a welfare concern. Recent studies indicate that early provision of straw may help prevent TB, however, many of these studies were carried out on small groups of pigs and may have limited applicability to commercial farms.

A gene expression atlas of the domestic pig [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2012
This work describes the first genome-wide analysis of the transcriptional landscape of the pig. A new porcine Affymetrix expression array was designed in order to provide comprehensive coverage of the known pig transcriptome. The new array was used to generate a genome-wide expression atlas of pig tissues derived from 62 tissue/cell types.

Destabilization of the medial meniscus to induce post-traumatic osteoarthritis in domestic pigs

open access: yesJournal of Cartilage & Joint Preservation, 2023
Introduction: Post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) develops following traumatic articular insult. One model system used to study the progression and treatment of PTOA is the destabilization of the medial meniscus (DMM) as first described by Glasson et al

Genetic diversity, breed composition and admixture of Kenyan domestic pigs.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
The genetic diversity of African pigs, whether domestic or wild has not been widely studied and there is very limited published information available. Available data suggests that African domestic pigs originate from different domestication centers as ...
