Assessing the simple dynamical systems approach in a Mediterranean context: application to the Ardèche catchment (France) [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2015
This study explores how catchment heterogeneity and variability can be summarized in simplified models, representing the dominant hydrological processes.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Boundary-induced effect on the spoke-like activity in ExB plasma

open access: yes, 2019
The spoke instability in an $E\times B$ Penning discharge is shown to be strongly affected by the boundary that is perpendicular to $B$ field lines. The instability is the strongest when bounded by dielectric walls.

Emergent stationarity in Yellow River sediment transport and the underlying shift of dominance: from streamflow to vegetation [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2019
Soil erosion and sediment transport play important roles in terrestrial landscape evolution and biogeochemical cycles of nutrients and contaminants. Although discharge is considered to be a controlling factor in sediment transport, its correlation with ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Transition from the C3-dominated discharge to the sooting plasma

open access: yesPhysical review. E, Statistical, nonlinear, and soft matter physics, 2003
Mass spectrometry and photoemission spectroscopy of a graphite hollow cathode source identify the parameters of the transition from the C(3) dominated discharge to the sooting plasma. The transition is a function of the shape and profile of a special cusp magnetic field which is a function of radius and azimuth angle, the geometry of the source, the ...

Investigation on Impact of Magnetic Field on the Corona Discharge Activity in Punga Oil Using Fluorescent Fiber and UHF Sensor Techniques

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
This paper reports the experimental investigation of the corona discharge activity of punga oil under the influence of a local magnetic field and different voltage profiles (AC and DC voltages) using fluorescent fiber sensor as well as UHF sensor ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Contrasting alterations to synaptic and intrinsic properties in upper-cervical superficial dorsal horn neurons following acute neck muscle inflammation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Acute and chronic pain in axial structures, like the back and neck, are difficult to treat, and have incidence as high as 15%. Surprisingly, most preclinical work on pain mechanisms focuses on cutaneous structures in the limbs and animal ...
