Seasonal and spatial variations of Synechococcus in abundance, pigment types, and genetic diversity in a temperate semi-enclosed bay

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Synechococcus is abundant and globally widespread in various marine environments. Seasonal and spatial variations in Synechococcus abundance, pigment types, and genetic diversity were investigated based on flow cytometric analysis and high-throughput ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The holy blood and the holy grail: Myths of scientific racism and the pursuit of excellence in sport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Despite the continuing publication of research that suggests there is no scientific basis to 'race' as a biological category, theories of racial difference continue to be invoked within sport to explain the perceived dominance of black athletes.

Broadly targeted human cytomegalovirus-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cells dominate the memory compartments of exposed subjects

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 2005
Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infections of immunocompetent hosts are characterized by a dynamic, life-long interaction in which host immune responses, particularly of T cells, restrain viral replication and prevent disease but do not eliminate the virus ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Dual Modality EIT-UTT for Water Dominate Three-Phase Material Imaging

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Three-phase material imaging such as oil, gas and water is a critical problem in many processes. Monitoring and separation of each phase before corresponding process can be a key to realise cost efficiency production.

Total domination and least domination in a tree

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 2003
A subset \(X\) of the vertex set \(V(G)\) of a graph \(G\) is called dominating (or total dominating) in \(G\), if for each \(x\in V(G)- X\) (or for each \(x\in V(G)\), respectively) there exists \(y\in X\) adjacent to \(x\). The least number of vertices of a dominating (or total dominating) set in \(G\) is the domination number \(\gamma(G)\) (or the ...
