Engineered Nanoplatforms Targeting Activated Hepatic Stellate Cells for Liver Fibrosis Therapy via TGF‐β Axis Inhibition and Ferroptosis Induction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
FeS‐VA@lanifibranor (FVL), an activated hepatic stellate cell (aHSC)‐targeted nanoplatform comprising vitamin A‐functionalized two‐dimensional iron sulfide nanosheets and lanifibranor, is engineered for precision therapy of liver fibrosis. FVL suppresses the TGF‐β signaling pathway by inhibiting SMAD2/3 phosphorylation and induces ferroptosis in aHSCs,

An Engineered Biomimetic Nanoreactor With Cascade Functions for Targeted and Combinatorial Therapy of Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Preparation of RVG‐modified erythrocyte membrane‐coated HMPB nanocarriers loaded with L‐arginine and NBP (RM@HPAN) and its neuroprotective mechanism. After intravenous injection, RM@HPAN achieves prolonged circulation, RVG‐29‐mediated BBB penetration, and ischemic accumulation.

Kidney transplant from donation after circulatory death: a novel pre-transplant combined clinico-pathological predictive score

open access: yes
Background: Kidney donation after circulatory death is a valid alternative to donation after brain death. However, ischemia–reperfusion injury can damage the graft and make it non-viable.

Optimization of pretransplant amiodarone therapy to prevent primary graft dysfunction following heart transplantation

open access: yesJHLT Open
Background: Despite its side effects, amiodarone remains widely used for arrhythmias in patients awaiting heart transplantation (HT). We evaluated the impact of pretransplant amiodarone use and the timing of its discontinuation on the risk of primary ...

Comprehensive In Vitro Profiling Demonstrates Successful Immune Evasion of Bioengineered Immune‐Shielded Heart Valves

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Living donor heart valves offer superior durability for pediatric patients but trigger immune rejection. Lentiviral delivery of viral immune‐evasion genes US2 and Serpin b9 into donor valve cells and valve tissue suppresses HLA expression, reduces PBMC clustering and cytotoxic killing, and induces transcriptional immune‐tolerance programs, paving the ...

Heart Transplant: Donation after Circulatory Death [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Donation after circulatory death (DCD) is a potential avenue to narrow the gap between demand for donor hearts and their limited supply. DCD was abandoned after 1970 where donation of organs after brain death became the standard, however DCD has made a ...

Near‐Infrared Light‐Activated Polydopamine Nanoparticles Conjugated With Transferrin Peptides for Enhanced Brain Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that Tf‐PDA NPs combine a receptor‐mediated targeting with mild photothermal activation to enhance nanoparticle accumulation in the brain. NIR‐activated Tf‐PDA NPs increase BBB permeability to NPs in vitro and in vivo without inducing cytotoxicity or adverse immune responses.

The Circulatory-Respiratory Determination of Death in Organ Donation

open access: yes, 2010
OBJECTIVE: Death statutes permit physicians to declare death on the basis of irreversible cessation of circulatory-respiratory or brain functions. The growing practice of organ donation after circulatory determination of death now requires physicians to ...

Donation after circulatory death with thoracoabdominal normothermic regional perfusion recovery has similar outcomes with donation after brain death for lung transplantation

open access: yesJHLT Open
Introduction: Donation after circulatory death (DCD) with thoracoabdominal normothermic regional perfusion (TA-NRP) has been increasingly used to procure cardiac allografts; however, concerns persist regarding its impact on lung allografts.

Lignin Mimicking Protein Methylation Augments the Efficacy of FOLFOX Chemotherapy by Anchoring Thymidylate Synthase

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lignin‐mimicking protein methylation can enhance the efficacy and mitigate the toxicity of the classic FOLFOX chemotherapy regimen. ABSTRACT FOLFOX has served as the standard chemotherapy regimen for advanced stages, specifically in the treatment of pancreatic, colorectal, and bladder cancers.
