Isoform Specificity of a Compound Targeting Actin Filaments Containing Tropomyosin Tpm1.8/1.9

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The unbranched actin filaments in mammalian cells are usually composed of co‐polymers of a specific tropomyosin isoform with actin. Genetic manipulation has revealed that the tropomyosins largely define the functional properties of actin filaments in an isoform‐specific, non‐redundant manner.

The Gender of Fossil Fuels: Oil and Domestic Perils in Mandate Palestine

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article explores the gender dynamics behind the rise of kerosene – an oil derivative – as the main domestic fuel in Mandate Palestine. It argues that these dynamics were constitutive in determining who began to use oil, where and for what purposes, in turn demonstrating that women in Palestine were the promoters and targets of a campaign ...

Protein Profile Characterization of Donkey Milk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Milk is a biological fluid designed to contain all nutritional requirements of a specific mammalian newborn; therefore, the composition of milk differs by the needs of the neonate of different species. Although much research has been devoted to milk composition in the domestic horse, donkey’s milk has recently aroused scientific interest, above all ...

Bridging the Late Antique Gap in Northwest Arabia: New Archaeological Evidence on the Occupation of Wādī al‐Qurā (al‐ʿUlā [AlUla], Saudi Arabia) Between the Third and Seventh Centuries CE

open access: yesArabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In 2019, the Dadan Archaeological Project (CNRS/RCU/AFALULA) identified a Late Antique village 1 km south of ancient Dadan in the al‐ʿUlā valley (northwest Saudi Arabia). Three excavation seasons at this site (2021–2023) have uncovered a massive building constructed in the late third or early fourth cent.

Endothelial Netrin‐4 regulates oligodendrocyte precursor cell proliferation and differentiation via ET‐1 signaling in preterm white matter injury

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Our findings show early increased Netrin‐4 in mice with PWMI boosts angiogenesis and OPCs proliferation. Later, high levels hinder OPCs differentiation into mature cells, impairing myelination. It may act by stimulating ET‐1 secretion. Abstract Perinatal hypoxia–ischemia is a leading cause of preterm white matter injury (PWMI), yet mechanisms ...

The DNA/RNA autophagy protein SIDT2 as a novel neuropathological hallmark in Huntington disease

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
SIDT2‐immunoreactive inclusions are observed in the striatum, cerebral cortex, and hypothalamus in HD cases with different Vonsattel grades, and the frequency of SIDT2‐immunoreactive inclusions is associated with longer CAG repeats in the huntingtin gene.

Ku80 Counters Oxidative Stress-Induced DNA Damage and Cataract Formation in the Human Lens [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
PURPOSE: Oxidative stress in the human lens leads to a wide range of damage including DNA strand breaks, which are likely to contribute to cataract formation.

Non-Bovine Milk as Functional Foods with Focus on Their Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Bioactivities

open access: yesAntioxidants
The growing interest in functional foods has directed scientific attention toward alternative milk sources, particularly camel and donkey milk, which have been traditionally consumed for their purported health benefits across diverse cultures. These milk
