Human milk banks in the response to COVID-19: a statement of the regional human milk bank network for Southeast Asia and beyond

open access: yesInternational Breastfeeding Journal, 2021
Background The World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations on infant feeding in the context of COVID-19 uphold standing recommendations for breastfeeding, non-separation, and skin-to-skin contact, including the use of donor human milk when mother’s ...

Exploring the barriers and facilitators to the acceptability of donor human milk in eastern Uganda – a qualitative study

open access: yesInternational Breastfeeding Journal, 2020
Background Human milk is the best nutrition for all infants. When the mother’s own milk is not available, the World Health Organization recommends the use of donated human milk and milk banking for neonates born prematurely or with medical problems ...

Feeding Practices in Very Preterm and Very Low Birth Weight Infants in an Area Where a Network of Human Milk Banks Is in Place

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2018
Background: Great variability in enteral feeding practices for very preterm (<32 weeks gestational age-GA) and very low birth weight infants (VLBW; ≤1,500 g) have been reported.

Characteristics of the First Human Milk Bank in Taiwan

open access: yesPediatrics and Neonatology, 2013
The benefits of feeding human milk to infants, even in prematurity, have been well documented. Well-organized donor milk processing has made the milk bank a good source of nutrition for premature or sick infants if their own mother's milk is not ...

Personalization of the Microbiota of Donor Human Milk with Mother’s Own Milk [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that extremely preterm infants receive mother's own milk (MOM) when available or pasteurized donor breast milk (DBM) when MOM is unavailable. The goal of this study was to determine whether DBM could be inoculated with MOM from mothers of preterm infants to restore the live microbiota (RM).

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Donor human milk uses outside of the hospitalized preterm infant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Human milk (HM) is the gold standard for infant feeding. This is supported by extensive research which has shown benefits of HM in infants including reduced gastrointestinal infections, respiratory disease, and mortality. When the mother’s own milk (MOM)

Growth in VLBW infants fed predominantly fortified maternal and donor human milk diets: a retrospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics, 2012
Background To determine the effect of human milk, maternal and donor, on in-hospital growth of very low birthweight (VLBW) infants. We performed a retrospective cohort study comparing in-hospital growth in VLBW infants by proportion of human milk diet ...
