Donated Human Milk as a Determinant Factor for the Gut Bifidobacterial Ecology in Premature Babies

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Correct establishment of the gut microbiome is compromised in premature babies, with Bifidobacterium being one of the most affected genera. Prematurity often entails the inability to successfully breastfeed, therefore requiring the implementation of ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Formula milk versus donor breast milk for feeding preterm or low birth weight infants.

open access: yes, 2007
BACKGROUND: When sufficient maternal breast milk is not available, the alternative sources of enteral nutrition for preterm or low birth weight infants are donor breast milk or artificial formula milk.

Impact of diet and body composition on donor human milk: a cross-sectional pilot study

open access: yesPortuguese Journal of Pediatrics
Introduction and Objectives: Donor human milk is recommended in Neonatal Intensive Care Units when maternal breast milk is unavailable. This study aimed to explore the association between the eating habits, body mass index, and body composition of human ...

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Acceptability of donor breast milk banking, its use for feeding infants, and associated factors among mothers in eastern Ethiopia

open access: yesInternational Breastfeeding Journal, 2018
Background The first priority for infant feeding is to encourage the use of infant’s mother’s breast milk, but when this is not possible, donated breast milk is the second best option.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

A Comparison of Nutritional Antioxidant Content in Breast Milk, Donor Milk, and Infant Formulas

open access: yes, 2017
Human milk is the optimal food for human infants, including infants born prematurely. In the event that a mother of a hospitalized infant cannot provide breast milk, donor milk is considered an acceptable alternative.

Acceptability of donated breast milk in a resource limited South African setting

open access: yesInternational Breastfeeding Journal, 2011
Background The importance of breast milk for infants' growth, development and overall health is widely recognized. In situations where women are not able to provide their infants with sufficient amounts of their own breast milk, donor breast milk is the ...
