Engineered extracellular vesicles for precision renal therapy: Bioengineering strategies and clinical translation

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs) offer a versatile platform for kidney‐targeted therapy. This review summarizes bioengineering strategies, including cargo loading, surface modification, biomimetic fabrication, and biomaterial integration. We highlight translational challenges and propose future solutions to accelerate the clinical application of

Protective response in renal transplantation: no clinical or molecular differences between open and laparoscopic donor nephrectomy

open access: yesClinics, 2013
OBJECTIVE: Prolonged warm ischemia time and increased intra-abdominal pressure caused by pneumoperitoneum during a laparoscopic donor nephrectomy could enhance renal ischemia reperfusion injury.

Early complications after living donor nephrectomy: analysis of the Swiss Organ Living Donor Health Registry. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We evaluated the prospectively collected data about the incidence of early peri- and postoperative complications, and potential risk factors for adverse outcomes after living kidney donation in Switzerland.

Sonographic Diagnosis of an Intercostal Artery Pseudoaneurysm: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ultrasound, EarlyView.
A 63‐year‐old male presented to the emergency department after being found unconscious during a welfare check. Following a prolonged three‐month hospital admission, the patient developed left flank pain. Spectral Doppler ultrasound revealed a large isoechoic lesion with layering echoes, and spectral Doppler demonstrated bidirectional flow.

TA 30 Stapler Provides Longer Renal Vein Length Than Hem-o-lok Clip Application in Right Laparoscopic Living Donor Nephrectomy

open access: yesIndian Journal of Transplantation
Background: Currently, either Hem-o-lok (HOL) clip or stapler is being used to control the renal vein in laparoscopic right living donor nephrectomy.

Probiotic consumption reduces alveolar bone loss and kidney damage in pregnant rats with experimental periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis HN019 (B. lactis HN019) is a probiotic bacterial strain with immunomodulatory properties. Its benefits have been observed in healthy and systemically compromised animals with periodontitis (PD). Our objective was to investigate the local and systemic effects of the systemic administration of B.

The Alternative to Laparoendoscopic Single-Site Surgery: Small Strategic Laparoscopic Incision Placement (SLIP) Nephrectomy Improves Cosmesis Without Technical Restrictions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: The latest attempt to improve the cosmesis of laparoscopic surgery is laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS). We present our initial experience with an alternative procedure with similar cosmetic benefit but without technical limitations.

Periodontitis and high phosphate intake alone or in combination adversely affect the kidney

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Periodontitis and high phosphate (HP) intake can negatively affect the kidney in the presence of renal disease. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of periodontitis or HP intake, either alone or concurrently, on the periodontal tissue and the kidney under normal renal conditions.

Development of Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy: A Strategy to Increase Living Kidney Donation Incentive and Maintain Equivalent Donor/Recipient Outcome

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2009
Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN) has emerged as the preferred technique worldwide, and has contributed to a dramatic increase in living kidney donation during the past decade.

Retroperitoneoscopic donor nephrectomy: donor outcome and complication rate in comparison with three different techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Four surgical techniques for living donor nephrectomy were analyzed retrospectively in terms of perioperative outcome and early complication rate. A total of 182 donor nephrectomies including 69 open (OLDN), 14 fully laparoscopic (LDN), 34 hand-assisted ...
