One Year Outcomes Following Transplantation with COVID-19-Positive Donor Hearts: A National Database Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease
The current understanding of the safety of heart transplantation from COVID-19+ donors is uncertain. Preliminary studies suggest that heart transplants from these donors may be feasible.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Outcomes of Kidney Transplantation from Deceased Donors with Severe Acute Kidney Injury (AKIN Stage 3): A Preliminary Single-Centre Analysis

open access: yesMedical Sciences
Background: The shortage of donor kidneys has prompted interest in using organs from donors with severe acute kidney injury (AKI), but robust data on outcomes from donors with AKIN stage 3 remain limited. Methods: This single-centre, retrospective cohort

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

An evaluation of the prevalence and causes of blood donor deferral in Lagos state, Nigeria

open access: yesDiscover Public Health
Background Blood transfusion safety relies on thorough donor eligibility assessments that lead to the deferral of individuals who do not meet established criteria.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Identification of embryonic yield-related serum biomarkers using proteomic analysis in ovine superovulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
Superovulation is an efficient technology for the propagation of excellent livestock. Blood proteins other than reproductive hormones might be related to the outcome of superovulation.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
