Modular wind profile retrieval software for heterogeneous Doppler lidar measurements (AtmoProKIT v1.1) [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
Retrieving wind profiles from Doppler lidar radial velocities requires processing software tools. The heterogeneity of Doppler lidar types and data acquisition settings, as well as scan patterns applied for wind profiling, makes wind profile processing ...

Exploration of Whole Atmosphere Lidar: Mach-zehnder Receiver to Extend Fe Doppler Lidar Wind Measurements from the Thermosphere to the Ground

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
A receiver employing a field-widened Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) is investigated for extending the wind measurement range of a narrowband Fe Doppler (372 nm) lidar from its existing measurement range in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere (MLT ...

Depiction of complex airflow near Hong Kong International Airport using a Doppler LIDAR with a two-dimensional wind retrieval technique

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2007
The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) operates a Doppler LIght Detection And Ranging (LIDAR) system at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to monitor the airflow around the airport area. The LIDAR measures the radial component of the wind field.

A Robust Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filter for Floating Doppler Wind-LiDAR Motion Correction

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
This study presents a new method for correcting the six degrees of freedom motion-induced error in ZephIR 300 floating Doppler Wind-LiDAR-derived data, based on a Robust Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filter.

Retrieving wind statistics from average spectrum of continuous-wave lidar [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2013
The aim of this study is to experimentally demonstrate that the time-average Doppler spectrum of a continuous-wave (cw) lidar is proportional to the probability density function of the line-of-sight velocities. This would open the possibility of using

Observations and numerical simulations of a valley‐exit wind in the Alpine Bolzano basin

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
The evolution and spreading of the nocturnal valley‐exit wind flowing from the Isarco Valley into the Bolzano basin, in the Italian Alps, are found to be influenced by the basin temperature stratification. Measurements and high‐resolution simulations show that a cold‐air pool favors an upward trajectory of the flow at the exit of the valley.
