Examination of the effect of array weighting function on radar target detectability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper describes a methodology to assess the detectability of targets by anairborne fire control radar operating in a medium PRF mode in the presence of strongground clutter as a function of the transmitting and receiving antenna array ...

Spatial observation‐error correlations for AMSU‐A in all‐sky assimilation: An ECMWF and UK Met Office intercomparison

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Assimilation of AMSU‐A all‐sky observations can be increased up to fivefold if spatial observation‐error correlations are accounted for properly. New correlation estimates derived using data from ECMWF and the UK Met Office reveal that correlation length‐scales are between 75 and 150 km for AMSU‐A channels peaking in the troposphere. This is attributed

Modeling rainfall drop size distribution moments using an S‐band polarimetric radar in complex terrain

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Using S‐band dual‐polarization radar and disdrometers during PRECIP 2022 in Taiwan, we analyze a Mei‐Yu frontal event with widespread stratiform rain and embedded convection. Multiple disdrometers are used to create a novel drop size distribution model for S‐band radars resolving both the drizzle and precipitation modes. The model reveals both inferred

Enabling Under Ice Glider Operations: A Backseat Driver Approach

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Polar Oceans are key locations for forcing global ocean circulation, influencing both global climate and biogeochemical cycles. Due to restricted access to these seasonally and perennially ice‐covered regions, these areas are severely undersampled.

Doppler compensation in forward-looking STAP radar

open access: yes, 2022
S.253-258For air- and spaceborne MTI radar the clutter Doppler frequency depends on range for all array geometries other than linear sidelooking. This applies particularly to forward-looking arrays.

Strategies for Assessing Post‐Wildfire Geomorphic Resilience in Semiarid Rivers

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We review and summarize diverse components of a catchment that can be monitored after wildfire to assess the geomorphic resilience of the river corridor in semiarid regions. We distinguish upland portions of river catchments from river corridors.

Sonar and radar SAR processing for parking lot detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, SAR processing algorithms for automotive applications are presented and illustrated on data from non-trivial test scenes. The chosen application is parking lot detection.

Surface Current Retrieval From TerraSAR-X Data Using Doppler Measurements

open access: yes, 2010
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the estimation of surface currents directly on stripmap TerraSAR-X data, as an alternative to Along Track Interferometry.
