dormancy in plants

open access: yes, 2007
The term ‘dormancy’ refers to a state of a plant or plantorgan that is characterized by the virtual absence of met-abolic activity and/or a lack of further development andgrowth.Dormancyoccursinseeds, bulbs, tubers, budsandwhole plants. It is an adaptive trait that has evolved byselection for the capacity to survive prolonged unfavour-able environmental ...

Goodbye flat lymphoma biology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional (3D) biological systems have become key tools in lymphoma research, offering reliable in vitro and ex vivo platforms to explore pathogenesis and support precision medicine. This review highlights current 3D non‐Hodgkin lymphoma models, detailing their features, advantages, and limitations, and provides a broad perspective on future ...

Dormancy in breast cancer

open access: yesBreast Cancer: Targets and Therapy, 2012
Tumor dormancy describes a prolonged quiescent state in which tumor cells are present, but disease progression is not yet clinically apparent. Breast cancer is especially known for long asymptomatic periods, up to 25 years, with no evidence of the disease, followed by a relapse.

Targeting Indoleamine 2,3-Dioxygenase 1: Fighting Cancers via Dormancy Regulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
The connection between indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) and tumour dormancy – a quiescent state of tumour cells which has been consistently linked to metastasis and cancer recurrence – is rarely discussed despite the pivotal role of IDO1 in cancer ...

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

Decoupling photo- and thermoperiod by projected climate change perturbs bud development, dormancy establishment and vernalization in the model tree Populus

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2018
Background The performance and survival of deciduous trees depends on their innate ability to anticipate seasonal change. A key event is the timely production of short photoperiod-induced terminal and axillary buds that are dormant and freezing-tolerant.

Breaking Seed Dormancy during Dry Storage: A Useful Tool or Major Problem for Successful Restoration via Direct Seeding?

open access: yesPlants, 2020
To facilitate the restoration of disturbed vegetation, seeds of wild species are collected and held in dry storage, but often there is a shortage of seeds for this purpose. Thus, much research effort is expended to maximize the use of the available seeds

Mycobacterium tuberculosis sulfurtransferase SseA is activated by its neighboring gene product Rv3284

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tuberculosis remains a global health challenge and new therapeutic targets are required. Here, we characterized SseA, a sulfurtransferase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis involved in macrophage infection, and its interaction with the newly identified protein SufEMtb that activates SseA enzymatic activity.

Tumor dormancy and immunoescape [PDF]

open access: yesAPMIS, 2008
The role of the immune system in tumor dormancy is now well established. In several experimental models it is possible to induce tumor dormancy in immunocompetent hosts by prior immunization against tumor cells. Equilibrium between immune response and tumor cells leads to long‐term tumor dormancy.
