Dormancy and Dormancy Release in White Spruce

Forest Science, 1966
Abstract Picea glauca (Moench) Voss shows typical dormancy of winter buds. To break dormancy the trees should be chilled 4 to 8 weeks at 36° to 40°F., depending on their developmental stage and age when the treatment is begun.

Calcium and the release from dormancy of freshwater sponge gemmules

Developmental Biology, 1978
Abstract Divalent cations (Zn, Mn, Ba, Sr) inhibit the development of dormant gemmules of the freshwater sponge Spongilla lacustris. This inhibition is overcome by calcium which can be interpreted to mean that this divalent ion is essential for germination (cell division) in this system.

Methodological and physiological study of seed dormancy release in Tilia henryana

Journal of Plant Physiology, 2023
Tilia henryana is a rare tree of the Tilia family, found exclusively in China. Its seeds have severe dormancy features that limit its normal conditions of reproduction and renewal. Its seeds have severe dormant characteristics that limit its normal conditions of reproduction and renewal. The Dormancy in T. henryana seeds is a comprehensive dormancy (PY

Dormancy release in potato tubers: A review

American Potato Journal, 1987
Dormancy release in potato tubers is reviewed in the context of recent biochemical and physiological research with particular emphasis on describing ambiguities in the literature. A complex picture of dormancy release emerges with hypothetical multiple roles for most major plant growth regulator groups which occur within the tuber.

Dormancy Induction and Release in Buds and Seeds

2015
Dormancy is a complex trait in both buds and seeds, which is an important mechanism for survival during the life cycle of plants. Over the years, a vast wealth of information has been generated on how environmental and developmental signals impact dormancy in buds and seeds.

Potato minituber bud dormancy release

2005
Potato minitubers are small pathogen and disease-free seed tubers that are field planted to produce basic seed potatoes. Minitubers have a longer dormancy period than regular tubers. Predictable and consistent dormancy release of potato minitubers is necessary to ensure uniform sprouting and vigorous plant development.

Bud dormancy in beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Effect of chilling and photoperiod on dormancy release of beech seedlings

Tree Physiology, 1990
Two-year-old Fagus sylvatica L. seedlings were subjected to natural winter chilling or were overwintered in a heated greenhouse. Plants were then grown in controlled environment chambers with photoperiods of 9 or 13 h. Renewal of bud growth was found to be mainly determined by winter chilling.

An FTIR study of the induction and release of kiwifruit buds from dormancy

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2010
AbstractBACKGROUND: Many deciduous, perennial fruit crops require winter chilling for adequate budbreak and flowering. Recent research has shown that changes in sugar and amino acid profiles are associated with the release of buds from dormancy. This paper uses FTIR spectrometry to provide an alternative mechanism for tracking metabolic changes in the ...

Role of cAMP in the release from dormancy of freshwater sponge gemmules

Developmental Biology, 1976
Abstract The role of 3′5′-cyclic AMP (cAMP) in the release from dormancy of gemmules from the freshwater sponge Spongilla lacustris was investigated. During the first 2 hr of germination a significant decrease in the gemmule cAMP content was observed.

Histone modifications affecting plant dormancy and dormancy release: common regulatory effects on hormone metabolism

Journal of Experimental Botany
Abstract As sessile organisms, plants enter periods of dormancy in response to environmental stresses to ensure continued growth and reproduction in the future. During dormancy, plant growth is suppressed, adaptive/survival mechanisms are exerted, and stress tolerance increases over a prolonged period until the plants resume their ...
