Performance- and stimulus-dependent oscillations in monkey prefrontal cortex during short-term memory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Short-term memory requires the coordination of sub-processes like encoding, retention, retrieval and comparison of stored material to subsequent input. Neuronal oscillations have an inherent time structure, can effectively coordinate synaptic integration

Evolution in Neuromodulation—The Differential Roles of Acetylcholine in Higher Order Association vs. Primary Visual Cortices

open access: yesFrontiers in Neural Circuits, 2018
This review contrasts the neuromodulatory influences of acetylcholine (ACh) on the relatively conserved primary visual cortex (V1), compared to the newly evolved dorsolateral prefrontal association cortex (dlPFC).

Psychological Adaptation During Prolonged War‐Related Stress in Ukraine: A Narrative Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Civilian populations exposed to prolonged stress, loss, illness, displacement, and other uncontrollable life events demonstrate substantial variability in psychological adaptation. Contemporary research suggests that psychological outcomes are influenced not only by the severity of adversity but also by patterns of ...

Different prefrontal cortex activity patterns in bipolar and unipolar depression during verbal fluency tasks based on functional near infrared spectroscopy study

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study aimed to investigate the functionality of the prefrontal cortex in patients with unipolar depression (UD) and bipolar depression (BD) using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) during a verbal fluency task (VFT).

Adjacent Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex (DLPFC) Regions Participate in Distinct Large-Scale Networks Differentially Recruited for Social and Cognitive Control Functions

open access: yes
Human prefrontal cortex (PFC) is heterogenous. In monkeys, side-by-side PFC regions, including within dorsolateral PFC (DLPFC), show distinct long-range anatomical projection profiles, raising the possibility that adjacent regions might specialize as a consequence of the distributed networks in which they are embedded.

The Effect of Culture Mix or Not Conflict Against the Decision Making—A fNIRS Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Psychology, Volume 61, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT With increasing globalisation and deepening integration of local cultures, a growing number of product advertisements incorporate diverse, mixed cultural elements, designed to attract consumer attention and enhance purchase interest. However, the underlying mechanisms by which visual stimuli successfully influence consumer purchase behaviour ...

Muscarinic agonists for schizophrenia: Bridging preclinical evidence and clinical enthusiasm

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 19, Page 5701-5731, October 2026.
Abstract Antipsychotic drugs targeting dopamine receptors have been used to treat schizophrenia for decades, primarily alleviating positive symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions. However, they provide limited benefit for cognitive and negative symptoms—major contributors to poor outcomes—and are frequently associated with significant side ...
