Calculation of radiation dose enhancement factors for dose enhancement therapy of brain tumours

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1992
When brain tumours are loaded with iodinated contrast media (CM) and exposed to x-rays, the photoelectrons, Auger electrons and fluorescent x-rays from the iodine enhance the radiation dose absorbed by the tumour. A modified CT scanner, the CTX, can be used to localize the tumour and to deliver the dose enhancement therapy. Monte Carlo calculations are

Enhancing Acupuncture by Low Dose Naltrexone

Acupuncture in Medicine, 2011
To find appropriate and effective treatment options for chronic pain syndromes is a challenging task. Multimodal treatment approach has been gaining acceptance for chronic pain. However, combining treatments, such as acupuncture, with rational pharmacology is still in its infancy.

Low‐dose ritonavir moderately enhances nelfinavir exposure

Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2002
BackgroundThe protease inhibitor ritonavir is increasingly administered at subtherapeutic doses in highly active antiretroviral treatment, to utilize its potential for drug interactions and to enhance the plasma concentrations of other concomitantly prescribed protease inhibitors.

Radiation dose enhancement in tumors with iodine

Medical Physics, 1983
The loading of tissue with iodine can result in the enhancement of the radiation dose absorbed from low‐energy x‐ray or gamma ray sources. We have explored the potential of this phenomenon for radiation therapy. We have demonstrated the effect of iodine concentration and radiation quality on this dose enhancement in lymphocytes, we have calculated the ...

Time–dose relationships in radiation-enhanced integration

International Journal of Radiation Biology, 2001
We have shown that ionizing radiation increases recombination, as manifested by increased stable transduction of both plasmid and adenoviral vectors. This paper reports the duration of increased recombination after irradiation.A549 or NIH/3T3 cells were transfected at various times after irradiation.

Photon radiation dose enhancement at material interfaces

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2001
Experimental radiation dose-effect studies at a material's interface require high-resolution dose measurements resulting from the exposure of mounted samples on a supporting substrate. Reflections of photons and electrons from the substrate increase the effective dose to the sample relative to dose from the direct beam incident on the unbacked sample ...
