Multiscale Monte Carlo simulations of gold nanoparticle dose‐enhanced radiotherapy I: Cellular dose enhancement in microscopic models

open access: yesMedical Physics, 2023
AbstractBackgroundThe introduction of Gold NanoParticles (GNPs) in radiotherapy treatments necessitates considerations such as GNP size, location, and quantity, as well as patient geometry and beam quality. Physics considerations span length scales across many orders of magnitude (nanometer‐to‐centimeter), presenting challenges that often limit the ...

Multiscale Monte Carlo simulations of gold nanoparticle dose‐enhanced radiotherapy II. Cellular dose enhancement within macroscopic tumor models

open access: yesMedical Physics, 2023
AbstractBackgroundGold NanoParticle (GNP) dose‐enhanced radiation therapy (GNPT) requires consideration of physics across macro‐ to microscopic length scales, however, this presents computational challenges that have limited previous investigations.PurposeTo develop and apply multiscale Monte Carlo (MC) simulations to assess variations in nucleus and ...

Different distributions of gold nanoparticles on the tumor and calculation of dose enhancement factor by Monte Carlo simulation [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Energy and Technology, 2019
Gold nanoparticles can be used to increase the dose of the tumor due to its high atomic number as well as being free from apparent toxicity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of distribution of gold nanoparticles models, as well as changes ...

Enhanced Low Dose Rate Sensitivity at Ultra-Low Dose Rates [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 2011
We present results on the effects of ELDRS at dose rates of 10, 5, 1, and 0.5 mrad(Si)/s for a variety of commercial, radiation hardened, and ELDRS-free devices. We observed low dose rate enhancement below 10 mrad(Si)/s in several different part types. The magnitudes of the low dose rate enhancement varied substantially.

Energy Optimization And Calculation Of Dose Absorption Enhancement Factor In Photon Activation Therapy [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Physics, 2010
Introduction: Secondary radiation such as photoelectrons, Auger electrons and characteristic radiations cause a local boost in dose for a tumor when irradiated with an external X-ray beam after being loaded with elements capable of activating the tumor ...
