Thermohaline mixing and the photospheric composition of low-mass giant stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We compute full evolutionary sequences of red giant branch stars close to the luminosity bump by including state of the art composition transport prescriptions for the thermohaline mixing regimes. In particular we adopt a self-consistent double-diffusive

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Double-diffusive magnetoconvection in a tilted porous parallelogrammic domain with discrete heated-cooled segments: Leveraging machine learning and CFD approach

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Buoyancy-driven convection resulting from the combined buoyancy is commonly observed in various engineering applications, particularly for equipment located within confined enclosures.

Double-diffusive instability in core-annular pipe flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The instability in a pressure-driven core-annular flow of two miscible fluids having the same densities, but different viscosities, in the presence of two scalars diffusing at different rates (double-diffusive effect) is investigated via linear stability

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Dynamics of fingering convection II: The formation of thermohaline staircases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Regions of the ocean's thermocline unstable to salt fingering are often observed to host thermohaline staircases, stacks of deep well-mixed convective layers separated by thin stably-stratified interfaces.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Two-Scalar Turbulent Rayleigh-Benard Convection: Numerical Simulations and Unifying Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We conduct direct numerical simulations for turbulent Rayleigh-B\'{e}nard (RB) convection, driven simultaneously by two scalar components (say, temperature and salt concentration) with different molecular diffusivities, and measure the respective fluxes ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
