CEACAM1 participation in breast cancer progression

In invasive breast cancer (BC), CEACAM1 shifts from an apical to a uniform membranous/cytoplasmic pattern, or is lost, as tumors dedifferentiate, inversely tracking the Ki‐67 proliferative index. In MCF‐7 cells, only CEACAM1‐4L suppresses proliferation, repressing cell cycle and growth factor genes.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

The specimen described was given to me by Dr. Will G. Nichols of Fargo, N. D., in response to a request for human material to be used for class work in histology. The tube was serially sectioned, and only on examination of the finished slides was the double nature of the lumen revealed.
