Double-walled carbon nanotubes: Challenges and opportunities

Nanoscale, 2011
Double-walled carbon nanotubes are coaxial nanostructures composed of exactly two single-walled carbon nanotubes, one nested in another. This unique structure offers advantages and opportunities for extending our knowledge and application of the carbon nanomaterials family.

Rings of Double-Walled Carbon Nanotube Bundles

Nano Letters, 2003
Rings composed of double-walled carbon nanotubes coherently packed in a triangular arrangement are observed and characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron diffraction. Our conclusions are based on the interpretation of the real space images obtained by TEM and on the analysis of selected area electron diffraction patterns with

Double-Walled Carbon Nanotube Solar Cells

Nano Letters, 2007
We directly configured double-walled carbon nanotubes as energy conversion materials to fabricate thin-film solar cells, with nanotubes serving as both photogeneration sites and a charge carriers collecting/transport layer. The solar cells consist of a semitransparent thin film of nanotubes conformally coated on a n-type crystalline silicon substrate ...

Diffusion of Walls in Double‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Fullerenes, Nanotubes and Carbon Nanostructures, 2006
Possibility of rigid and non-rigid diffusion of the walls in double-walled carbon nanotubes with armchair and zigzag walls is considered. Diffusion coefficients and mobilities are calculated using ab initio values of the barriers to relative motion of the walls.

Double-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

2007
Double-wall carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) are the simplest archetypicalmanifestation of MWNTs and as such combine the outstanding properties of SWNTswith the possibility to study concentric intertube interactions with highprecision. Two complementary routes for the efficient growth of DWNTs arediscussed.

Classification for double-walled carbon nanotubes

Carbon, 1999
A classification method for double-walled carbon nanotubes is proposed taking account of the geometric constraints. The different possibilities of interlayer interactions are examined.

Ferromagnetism of double-walled carbon nanotubes

Applied Physics Letters, 2010
The pure double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) and two endohedral DWNTs (DWNTs with materials filled inside) are produced. The filling materials are CoI2 and KI, respectively. The ferromagnetism (FM) is observed in pure DWNTs. The content of residual catalyst Fe is too small to be responsible for the observed FM. On the other hand, after filling KI or

Connection of macro-sized double-walled carbon nanotube strands by bandaging with double-walled carbon nanotube films

Carbon, 2007
Based on their special shrinkage characteristics, double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNT) films were used as bandages to bind the overlapped ends of macro-sized (centimeters long) DWCNT strands for connection to get structures of random length. Tensile tests indicated that the joints made in this way had relatively high tensile strength with a maximum ...

Microwave-Assisted Bromination of Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Chemistry of Materials, 2009
The synthesis and characterization of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNT) functionalized with Br (Br-DWCN) under microwave assisted (MiW) conditions, to link covalently the Br atoms to DWCNT with a percentage of functionalization of carbon 5-8 % in weight has been demonstrated. 30 mg of DWCNT were mixed with 5 ml of an aqueous solution of Br in a 10
