The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Double diffusive convection of NEPCM in an S-shaped porous cavity under magnetic field influence with localized heat and mass sources

open access: yesOpen Physics
This study presents a novel numerical investigation of double-diffusive convection in an S-shaped porous cavity filled with Nano-Encapsulated Phase Change Material (NEPCM), subjected to localized thermal and solutal sources under magnetic field influence.

Second Law Analysis in Convective Heat and Mass Transfer

open access: yesEntropy, 2006
This paper reports the numerical determination of the entropy generation due to heat transfer, mass transfer and fluid friction in steady state for laminar double diffusive convection, in an inclined enclosure with heat and mass diffusive walls, by ...

Double-Diffusive Convection in Bidispersive Porous Medium with Coriolis Effect

open access: yesMathematical and Computational Applications, 2022
In this paper, the thermal instability of rotating convection in a bidispersive porous layer is analyzed. The linear stability analysis is employed to examine the stability of the system. The neutral curves for different values of the physical parameters

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Numerical analysis of non-Newtonian nanofluids under double-diffusive regimes

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2023
In the present study, the slip velocity of a non-Newtonian fluid flowing above a continuously stretching surface with double-diffusive nanofluid is examined at prespecified values of surface temperature, while also accounting for salt concentration.

High Rayleigh number convection with double diffusive fingers

open access: yes, 2010
An electrodeposition cell is used to sustain a destabilizing concentration difference of copper ions in aqueous solution between the top and bottom boundaries of the cell.

Estimation of ice shelf melt rate in the presence of a thermohaline staircase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Diffusive convection–favorable thermohaline staircases are observed directly beneath George VI Ice Shelf, Antarctica. A thermohaline staircase is one of the most pronounced manifestations of double-diffusive convection.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Electron transport in Coulomb- and tunnel-coupled one-dimensional systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We develop a linear theory of electron transport for a system of two identical quantum wires in a wide range of the wire length L, unifying both the ballistic and diffusive transport regimes.
