Empirical Analysis of the Contributions of Mesopores and Micropores to the Double-Layer Capacitance of Carbons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Activated carbons with large mesopore volumes were prepared from waste coffee grounds by chemical activation with ZnCl2. These carbons exhibited excellent electrochemical double-layer capacitance of up to 368 F g−1 in 1 M H2SO4.

Quantum capacitance: The large but hidden capacitance in supercapacitors

open access: yesCarbon Trends
Increasing energy storage demands, and the reducing device size have led to the development of high surface area nanoporous materials. However, the energy storage in such materials do not typically scale as expected according to the increase in the ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Potential Step for Double-Layer Capacitances Obeying the Power Law [PDF]

open access: yesACS Omega, 2020
Potential-step chronoamperometry was made at a platinum wire electrode in KCl aqueous solution at the aim of finding the behavior of the power law of the time or the constant phase element for the double-layer (DL) capacitances. The logarithmic current decays linearly with the time shorter than 0.1 ms, and then it obeys the power law in which it has a ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Multiionic and Permittivity-Related Effects on the Diffuse Electric Double Layer Structure at Solid-Electrolyte Solution Interfaces

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
The structure and differential capacitance of the diffuse part of the electric double layer at solid-electrolyte solution interfaces are examined using a theoretical model that takes into account the finite ion size by modeling the solution as a ...

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Modeling Electric Double-Layer Capacitors Using Charge Variation Methodology in Gibbs Ensemble

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2018
Supercapacitors deliver higher power than batteries and find applications in grid integration and electric vehicles. Recent work by Chmiola et al. (2006) has revealed unexpected increase in the capacitance of porous carbon electrodes using ionic liquids ...
