A bidirectional Optimality Theoretic analysis of multiple negative indefinites in Afrikaans

open access: yesStellenbosch Papers in Linguistics, 2014
In the literature on negation, Afrikaans is generally categorised as a negative concord language. Unlike most other negative concord languages though, utterances containing multiple indefinites in the scope of negation are typically produced with a ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Jespersen's cycle in Slovenian

open access: yesLinguistica, 2011
The paper examines the syntactic status of the negative marker in standard Slovenian and its Pannonian dialects in terms of the grammaticalisation process known as Jespersen's cycle.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Hybrid Negation: Enhancing Sentiment Analysis for Complex Sentences

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Numerous valuable information is available on the Internet, and many individuals rely on mass media as their primary source of information. Various views, comments, expressions, and opinions on social networks have been a tremendous source of information.

The space of measurement outcomes as a spectrum for non-commutative algebras [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2010
Bohrification defines a locale of hidden variables internal in a topos. We find that externally this is the space of partial measurement outcomes. By considering the double negation sheafification, we obtain the space of measurement outcomes which ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

On Correspondence between Selective CPS Transformation and Selective Double Negation Translation

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
A double negation translation (DNT) embeds classical logic into intuitionistic logic. Such translations correspond to continuation passing style (CPS) transformations in programming languages via the Curry-Howard isomorphism.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

A type system for Continuation Calculus [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Proceedings in Theoretical Computer Science, 2014
Continuation Calculus (CC), introduced by Geron and Geuvers, is a simple foundational model for functional computation. It is closely related to lambda calculus and term rewriting, but it has no variable binding and no pattern matching.
