this paper, two methods are developed for determining the global slope of the word image. The first method estimates the slope by finding the minimum entropy in the vertical projection histograms, whereas the second method determines the slope from the ...

Assessing the dynamic influences of slope angle and sediment composition on debris flow behaviour: An experimental approach [PDF]
Debris flows are hazards that can inflict significant infrastructural damage and loss of life. Their rapid and unpredictable onset in isolated locations means that field studies are limited.

A trapezoid type inequality for double integrals [PDF]
In this paper, we point out a trapezoid like inequality for double integrals and apply it in connection with the Gruss ...

Characterising slopes for hyperbolic knots and Whitehead doubles
A slope $p/q \in \mathbb{Q}$ is characterising for a knot $K \subset \mathbb{S}^3$ if the oriented homeomorphism type of the manifold $\mathbb{S}^3_K(p/q)$ obtained by Dehn surgery of slope $p/q$ on $K$ uniquely determines the knot $K$. We combine analysis of JSJ decompositions with techniques involving lengths of shortest geodesics to find explicit ...

Mechanical behavior of cut-slope reinforced with double-row stabilizing pipe piles
Stabilizing pipe piles are small-diameter prestressed concrete elements that can be constructed rapidly. Double-row stabilizing pipe piles are increasingly used to reinforce small- to medium-scale landslides and engineering slopes; however, studies on ...

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

Aquaporin‐3 and aquaporin‐5 impact the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma spheroids
Schematic representation of the role of aquaporin‐3 (AQP3) and aquaporin‐5 (AQP5) in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Both proteins are upregulated in PDAC and are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential. Silencing AQP3 or AQP5 in PDAC spheroids results in decreased diameter, area, and overall growth, underscoring their key ...

The number of lattice paths below a cyclically shifting boundary [PDF]
We count the number of lattice paths lying under a cyclically shifting piecewise linear boundary of varying slope. Our main result can be viewed as an extension of well-known enumerative formulae concerning lattice paths dominated by lines of integer ...

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...
