Recent insights into the molecular mechanism of ubiquinol oxidation by cytochrome bc1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The review reflects on the mechanism of the catalytic reaction in cytochrome bc1: the electron bifurcation that involves the separation of two electrons derived from the quinol oxidation to opposite sides of the enzyme across the membrane. This review summarizes the long‐standing effort to understand the mechanism of quinol oxidation catalyzed by ...

Optimization of steady-state target tracking for hybrid dual-type CV systems based on integral slope balance constraints

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal
To address the application gap in target tracking for complex systems featuring hybrid integral-type and stable-type controlled variables, this paper proposes an improved steady-state target tracking method within a double-layer model predictive control ...

In vitro generation of regulatory T cells: A challenging tool for studying immune aging in humans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In vitro induction of human regulatory T cells using standard protocols generates suppressive, Foxp3‐expressing CD4+ T cells independently of TGF‐β supplementation and donor age. Regulatory T (Treg) cells play a key role in immune tolerance and homeostasis.

Characterization of the key membrane protein cytochrome Cyc2 from Ghiorsea bivora

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study reports the first detailed biochemical analysis of Cyc2TAG1_1, a cytochrome protein involved in microbial iron oxidation. We produced and purified this enzyme in E. coli, then measured its iron‐oxidizing efficiency, and characterized its electrical and structural properties.

Determinants of undergraduate bioscience engagement: Validating attendance barriers and classroom spatial behaviour across institutions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Student engagement extends beyond simple attendance. Across 891 bioscience students from three universities, attendance behaviour was associated mainly with structural influences, whereas classroom spatial behaviour reflected affective and sensory factors.

The extent and an analysis of shallow failures on the slopes of highway earthworks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The reported incidences of shallow failures on the slopes of highway earthworks have increased in recent years. This Thesis includes a study of the extent of this problem, the likely factors contributing to failure, and presents the results of ...

A two-layer fusion prediction model for landslide displacement based on ICEEMDAN-CNN-BiLSTM-XGBoost

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan
A two-layer fusion prediction model based on landslide displacement time series decomposition is proposed to address the problems of existing landslide displacement prediction models which rely too much on the environmental influence factors and do not ...

Ultrafast visual detection of Streptococcus suis via HtpsC‐targeted LAMP–CRISPR–Cas12a coupled with lateral flow immunochromatography

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A rapid visual test combines DNA amplification, CRISPR–based target verification, and a lateral flow strip to detect Streptococcus suis. The assay gives results in about 45 min, reduces false‐positive interpretation, and does not require fluorescence equipment.

On the optimal profile of a slope

open access: yes, 2007
The problem of determining the best profile for a c, φ soil slope is tackled, with reference to rigid rotational failure mechanisms. By means of limit analysis, upper bound values of collapse load are determined. A new mathematical function is derived to

Hydrogel platforms for 3D cardiac tissue engineering and fibrotic disease modelling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hydrogel‐based cardiac tissue models are advancing our understanding of heart health and disease. By incorporating electrical conductivity, aligned structures, and tunable mechanical properties, these platforms better replicate the complex environment of native heart tissue.
