Tricritical Behavior in the Extended Hubbard Chains
Phase diagrams of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model (including nearest-neighbor interaction $V$) at half- and quarter-filling are studied by observing level crossings of excitation spectra using the exact diagonalization. This method is based on

Models of X-ray Photoionization in LMC X-4: Slices of a Stellar Wind [PDF]
We show that the orbital variation in the UV P Cygni lines of the X-ray binary LMC X-4 results when X-rays photoionize nearly the entire region outside of the X-ray shadow of the normal star. We fit models to HST GHRS observations of N V and C IV P Cygni

Context. The distribution and the abundance of metals in the intergalactic medium (IGM) have strong implications for galaxy formation and evolution models. The ionic transitions of heavy elements in quasar spectra can be used to probe both the mechanisms

GRB host galaxies with VLT/X-Shooter: properties at 0.8 < z < 1.3 [PDF]
Long gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs) are associated with the death of massive stars. Their host galaxies therefore represent a unique class of objects tracing star formation across the observable Universe.

Quantum phase transition in a minimal model for the Kondo effect in a Josephson junction
We propose a minimal model for the Josephson current through a quantum dot in a Kondo regime. We start with the model that consists of an Anderson impurity connected to two superconducting (SC) leads with the gaps $\Delta_{\alpha}=|\Delta_{\alpha}| e^{i \

Crystal fields, disorder, and antiferromagnetic short-range order in Yb0.24Sn0.76Ru
We report extensive measurements on a new compound (Yb0.24Sn0.76)Ru that crystallizes in the cubic CsCl structure. Valence band photoemission and L3 x-ray absorption show no divalent component in the 4f configuration of Yb.

Neutrinos from Off-Shell Final States and the Indirect Detection of Dark Matter
We revisit the annihilation of dark matter to neutrinos in the Sun near the WW and tt kinematic thresholds. We investigate the potential importance of annihilation to WW* in a minimal dark matter model in which a Majorana singlet is mixed with a vector ...

A Three-Dimensional Solution of Flows over Wings with Leading-Edge Vortex Separation. Part 1: Engineering Document [PDF]
A method of predicting forces, moments, and detailed surface pressures on thin, sharp-edged wings with leading-edge vortex separation in incompressible flow is presented.

Lifting surface theory for a helicopter rotor in forward flight [PDF]
A lifting surface theory was developed for a helicopter rotor in forward flight for compressible and incompressible flow. The method utilizes the concept of the linearized acceleration potential and makes use of the vortex lattice procedure. Calculations
