Dowel design of the shear plate dowel joint

open access: yesEngineering Structures, 2020
Abstract The shear plate dowel joint (SPDJ) is a novel connection design for heavy timber structures. The connection uses a single large diameter dowel and glued-on steel plates to transfer loads between members. Consequently, the design of the dowel is of great influence for the global performance of the connection.

Numerical evaluation of the combined effect of dowel misalignment and wheel load on dowel bars performance in JPCP

open access: yesEngineering Structures, 2022
The paper presents a comprehensive experimental and analytical (3D finite element modelling-FEM) investigation into the combined effect of dowel misalignment and wheel load on dowel bars response in Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (JPCP).

Experimental investigation on the combined effect of dowel misalignment and cyclic wheel loading on dowel bar performance in JPCP [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering Structures, 2018
A number of previous studies indicated that the joint lockup due to misalignment and looseness of dowel bars may cause joint distress in Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (JPCP).

The effect of dowel lubrication on retention of resin-cemented dowels

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1994
Threaded dowels were cemented into prepared canals of extracted human teeth by use of unfilled Bis-GMA resin cement. One half the dowels were lubricated before cementation, unscrewed partially, and reseated to original length after cement had set, to assure retrievability.

Dowel deformations in multi-dowel LVL-connections under moment loading

open access: yesWood Material Science and Engineering, 2015
The aim of the experimental study presented herein is the assessment and quantification of the behavior of individual dowels in multi-dowel connections loaded by a bending moment.

Prefabricated Precision Dowels

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1964
Prefabricated, high-fusing, precious metal precision dowels, developed by the au thors, have a diameter and taper equal to the diameter and taper of new stand ardized files and reamers. An easy, timesaving method for root reinforcement which can be used by either the direct or indirect technic is introduced.

The effects of dowel design and load direction on dowel-and-core restorations

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2001
Complications such as loosening of the dowel and core or fracture of the remaining tooth root can be influenced by many factors, including the amount of remaining dentin, direction of the occlusal load, and design of the dowel. Most stress analyses of dowel and cores were conducted without including all aspects of the restorations and supporting ...
