The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1970
Abstract The technique described fulfills the objectives for a reliable dowel and core foundation by eliminating the weak and non-resilient part of the tooth, and by sufficiently distributing stresses of leverage and torque. The technique further provides for a preparation on which any chosen coronal restoration may be constructed, and which can be ...

Factors influencing the retention of dowels
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1977A technique for assessing the axial retention of dowels has been developed. This method uses whalebone instead of extracted teeth. Threaded dowels appear to have better resistance to axial displacement than other types. Resistance of threaded dowels to torsional forces can be significantly improved by a rotation lock technique.

Retention of endodontic dowels: Effects of cement, dowel length, diameter, and design
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1978The retentive capacity of three preformed endodontic dowel designs was compared at two lengths and two diameters, with three different cements. The greatest single factor influencing retention of these devices was the design used. Of the types tested in this study, the most retentive were threaded, parallel-sided dowels screwed into tapped channels ...
